We went to
McCormick's tonight. So-so experience, and they don't have comment cards :P
Our server didn't seem to care about us; she spent visibly more time at her other tables (smaller tables, btw, and they had come in after we had) than at ours. She would walk by ours all the time and not clear plates or refill cups, and if we tried to flag her down, she never noticed. She was nice but in a fakey way. She was only worth the 10% tip we gave her :P
I had the grilled
wahoo with mango salsa and coconut rice ($23ish). It was very good, but three things made me very mad: fish was too salty, there was a laughably small amount of salsa, and the dish was horrendously overpriced for what I received. I would have also liked them to present the broccoli in a more edible fashion (i.e. smaller pieces). The concept and presentation were good; the little morsels of salsa I did have were delicious, the coconut rice was not overpowering but aromatic enough.. really, the dish would have been perfect if even they had included three times the amount of salsa. That simple :P Pfft.
Calamari ($11.95) - not cooked long enough, was brought to the table lukewarm and not crispy. Dipping sauces were gross. They put wasabi in the ketchup that left an unpleasant aftertaste when mixed with the calamari - kind of like rotting food.
Oyster platter ($17.80) - lots of little shell bits floating in the shell. Could have done a better job with clean up :P
Fish and chips ($15ish) - fries were soft and mushy - not fried long enough. Also lukewarm. Pieces of fish were big.
Salmon penne with pesto sauce - not good, not bad. Very mediocre and predictable. Skimpy on the salmon and very blah to look at - very monochrome and almost sickly in tenor.
Complimentary sourdough bread came in big hunks that were not sliced even halfway through, so tearing slices apart resulted in a giant mess. Bread was not warm, nor toasty or crispy, and really, not particularly tasty. Came with whipped butter, which was the only upside to the bread "dish."
Overall menu was unadventurous and predictable. Not interesting at all. This would be my second time at McCormick's (first time was in downtown Seattle) and both times I've left feeling unimpressed and really just blah, as well as ripped off by the outrageous prices. Not recommended unless you like mediocrity and a "recognizable" menu, which apparently is a large portion of the population because the place is always packed when I look in.
I'd rather walk down the street to
Manzana for a guaranteed good meal and good service at reasonable prices. They've got a diverse menu which includes some old favorites, so everyone is happy. I've not had a bad experience as of yet, from the time they first opened and the last time I was there (about a month ago). And they have comment cards, which I always fill in with praise. Highly recommended.
