HAPPY BIRTHDAY NORWAY
GRATULERER MED DAGEN NORGE!

The day when we celebrate our constitution. It was signed on this day in 1814, while we still were in union with Sweden.
As opposed to the national day in many other countries, ours is not a day of military parades and stuff like that, but it is rather the day of the people and especially the children.

All the school children in the country, and the marching bands who belong to the schools, have parades all over the country. In Oslo, where this picture is from, all the schools in the capital gather and march up the main street towards the castle where the royal family come out to greet the people and wave to the children.

The national costumes are shown off, each little nook and cranny of the country has their own version of it.

In major cities all over the world Norwegians gather to hold parades. This is from New York.

Sydney

Tokyo

If you ever want to come to Norway, this is a good day to come... and if you're in a big city in the middle of May, and you notice some strange people walking with Norwegian flags, cheering and maybe walking with strange costumes, go join in :)
