Progress in the Office

I have to start making posts more often than every two weeks. I've been horrible lately. But then again, it's be very busy too. Anyways...

I've finished up a lot of work with redecorating the second bedroom in out house and turning it into my new office slash artistic sanctuary. I've chosen a few select pictures to display, but if you want to see the full project, you can check it out on my FaceBook page.

This is how it all began. The room was basically a place to dump everything we didn't have use for. This resulted in a disorganized room, a packed closet, and attic space that was not being utilized in the least.

After having enough of this for almost a year or so, I decided it was time for a change. This is a basic sketch of what I was hoping and looking for. The results differed a bit, but it still came out looking fabulous!

I set to work...with a bit of help along the way, courtesy of Foster...

And here are the happy results!

First off, my main work space. I ditched the old desk from once upon a time and replaced it with a more modern, sleek white one with far more space than I had. Pete's mother bought it for me for my 26th birthday this year and I absolutely adore it! I painted the walls a nice neutral tan and put up a small shelf above the desk for some added storage and display space. Above that, I painted some strips of cork to create a grand, large story board area for when I'm writing. The chair actually came from a set that my parents owned, but don't use anymore. I love the design on the back and it definitely gives the room a bit of "pop"! I finished up the set with some decorative candles and lights from Ikea and a small clock from Peter's old storage.

This bookcase for the inner wall of the room came from Ikea as well. Only $35 and it matches the desk perfectly. I dressed up above it with a homemade painting.

Here's a close up of the painting, made from inspiration on HGTV. Simply take a painter's canvas and some painter's tape and tape off a design of your choosing. Paint in wherever you wish. After the paint is dry, pull the tape and you have your own modern art! Since I accidentally sploched on mine, I decided to add a couple more marks. Lo and behold, I think it ended up making the painting all it's own. I love it even more now!

I've had this cork board since I was in high school, but I redid it with a fresh coat of the blue paint, covering the sun, moon and star design that previously decorated it. I also hung a shelf, painted the same blue, between the closet and entrance doors. I finished the look with some decorative candles.

The dresser actually came from my nursery as a baby. After being white and yellow all my life (and missing some handles from wear and tear), I decided it was time for a revamp. A fresh coat of paint with some blue splashed in gave it a new fresh look. I removed what was left of the old, silver handles, replacing them with some new, intricate ones I found on clearance at Home Depot. If you would like to see a close up of the design, go to my FaceBook album. The lamp came from Pete's mother, was in need of a touch up as well. A couple coats of paint freshened up the sharp design. The shade which was previously destroyed during the move, was replaced with a four corner one from Target for $8. I also added a couple of hooks to the wall to match the dressers new knobs.

This is the only corner I have left to work on. I'm hoping to soon get a small rug to put down on the hardwood floor and a chair and ottoman to put in this corner. I think it would be a nice finishing touch to this room and give me a nice area to sit and read, write, and crochet when I want.

All and all, I believe my work for the past month went by with success. I'm hoping to hit the back room with Peter this fall and do a total redecorating of that. It needs it since it's currently housing some extra, outdated furniture and my old college futon, which now seems to be falling apart. Stay tuned to find out what I do with it!
