During last night's episode, an American Idol contestant called Aretha Franklin her favorite Motown artist, which led Idolator to whip up this lil' graphic:


Remember kids: Aretha Franklin-born in the Motor City, never signed to Motown, Tamla, Gordy, or any other Motown Records subsidiary. (Funny Motown subsidiary note: In 1969, the company released Chris Clarks' C.C. Rides Again on the one-off subsidiary Weed Records. I won't believe it until I see it, but various Internet sources claim the label's tagline was some form of "Your favorite artists are on Weed.")
