This is Not The Codec Your Video Is Looking For

Tonight I ran into a bit of a dilemna.

I've been trying to play Supernatural on my computer and it kept giving me an error message of "no codec available". I thought, at first, that my laptop was too old or something. But I then tried it on the newest versions of Windows Media Player (version 10), Real Player, and Adobe Premier and still couldn't get it to play the video only the sound.

I decided this was a test of my new fan status for Supernatural. How bad do I really want to see these episodes?

It seems I have passed the "yes, I'm truly hooked" test. Mostly because I obsessively searched codec sites until I found the one mentioned in that one tiny posting on an obscure board.

(Codec for anyone who doesn't speak tech geek is basically whatever language the video was encoded in. For instance it can be an AVI file, but still be coded with a given language. If you don't have a translator for the code, a la a tiny Daniel Jackson plug-in, then you can't watch it.)

K-Lite Codec Mega pack does solve the problem in case you or anyone you know runs into this issue (where a video has been downloaded to your computer but will only play sound with a black screen). The place to download this codec is...

Figured this might be useful for anyone who's frustrated.

Off to watch episodes and some more of Wolfpup's wonderful Supernatural videos. It was her videos that really suckered me...er...I mean...hooked me into wanting to watch the show when my friends were trying to convert me at MW last month.
