En route to other things

Along the lines of my research into Asperger Syndrome, when I mused whether hamburgers made from ground rump roast could be considered assburgers: today, in researching for my paper on gender typing, I wondered if transgendered people could be considered gender typos. Alas, these are thoughts that skitter through my way overtired brain.

Things here have been busybusy, but I think we may be settling down soon. Kevin starts back to school on Thursday 7/20. Before that, though, I have a doctor appointment on Monday, wherein I expect to be tsk-tsked for the weight I gained over the summer - about 6 or 8 pounds. It's not a lot, but I've been going in the opposite direction since January, and I'm kinda disgusted with myself. Guess that's why I'm going to the doctor.

The short version of the summer: Had fun in Florida but the trip was too short (as it always is). Came back for a couple of days, then to Illinois for a few and left Kevin there with John's folks for a week of day camp at LOMC. A few days at home, then postponed trip back to IL to retrieve The Boy from Friday to Saturday in order to help with the transport of 2 rescued Brittany Spaniels (OMG they were so CUTE! I have pictures, if I can figure out how to get them in here...). SPent the weekend before the 4th with John's family - including M&M and the twins. One afternoon Ben and his fiance Marta were there - offered to help with the wedding on 8/25. Not sure what their plans will wind up being, other than small and informal.

Made it back to Indy, and have been trying to get things back into a routine, largely without success. I did make it to the gym one day this week, first time in a month. Took Kevin to see some movies - "Akeelah and the Bee" which was WONDERFUL. "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" which was a lot of fun. There was one line that made me laugh really hard and now I can't remember it, but I was the only one in the theater laughing (as usual). Just like on Wednesday when we went to the dollar cinema for a FREE showing of "Osmosis Jones." I napped through a goodly portion of that particular movie, but was awake near the end to hear something to the effect of "C'mon, let's go down to the hemorrhoid and get you an attorney." which made me laugh out loud - again the only one laughing. But then again, the theater was filled with busloads of daycare kids taking advantage of the free movie, none of whom had the dubious distinction of working for RGW... that's an inside joke with I think only 3 people in!

Wish I could remember that line from "Dead Man's Chest" - Kevin and his friend Jesse and I went to see it at a different cinema than we usually go to (drove 20 minutes out of my way because it was near a place where one of the radio stations I listen to was sponsoring a blood drive, and I couldn't give blood because they were on a schedule and had as many donors as they could accommodate within the time period allotted!). The boys liked it because they had overpriced pretzels and overpriced pizza as snack alternatives, in addition to the usual overpriced tooth-rotting sugar and sodas.

Back to the present - M&M are here right now, they arrived yesterday evening. Let the kids stay up way late running around the backyard. I grilled T-Bones and chicken, and we had some exceptionally sweet corn on the cob, plus grapes, salad, and hot fresh rolls... it was yummilicious! Today I made french toast, cheesy eggs and hashbrowns for breakfast, hotdogs for lunch, and beef stew for supper. (Anybody wondering how I managed to gain weight??!!??) We went to a local indoor pool this afternoonm and John came home. He has to go again on Monday.

Speaking of Monday, I mentioned that I have a doctor appointment. That's at 7:30 in the morning. Also at 7:30, we're supposed to have the Saturn in to the shop for repair on the damage from when I got rear ended, last month I think it was. John said he'll take the car in, I can drive the Jeep to the doctor and then meet him at the body shop. His plan is for me to drive the Jeep while the car is in the shop. There is only on problem with this. I don't know how long the Saturn will be in the shop, and I have a date with a corgi puppy and his Mom this coming weekend. I'm also supposed to be bringing back a fence kennel. Which obviously will not fit in a Jeep Wrangler. I talked to John about postponing the body work for one week, but he didn't want to, so I'm kind of stuck.

I also talked to John about fencing. One puppy I could do with a stake-out line; a puppy and a full grown Corgi, I'm a little concerned about the safety. I don't mind WALKING dogs, I just hate to have the dogs inside ALL the time. I spend time outside, I'd like to be able to have the dogs running around with me. I really like watcing the Corgi Cracker Dog Dance. I'd originally thought that I'd take part of my monthly household budget and just buy some fencing, put it in myself and have it fait accompli when John got back from the field. I ran into several problems with this plan, not the least of which being that I'd already spent my monthly budget by the 10th, and any kind of fencing is pretty denged expensive. It's also a heck of a lot of work for a middle-aged fat chick who is allergic to the heat and sun. So, I talked to John. He said he's have to think about what to do. I know he's worried about our finances and in general isn't real happy with my plan for a puppy. But I NEED these dogs, and I'm very excited about it. The fact that I"m not working right now will make it easier to get them used to being here, house training, etc.

ANYWAY, the good news about the fence is this - whem M&M got here yesterday, Maizie told me that Virgil's next-door neighbor had removed his chain link fence and installed a wooden privacy fence (much to the annoyance fo Virg and Sheryl, but that's another story)... and Virgil took the old chain link fence. I called him this morning, he said there's 79' of fence, including top rail, caps, and all the posts except two end posts because they were cemented in. Early this week I did a quick measuring of our back yard - it was between 75' and 80'. Talk about coincidence, or whatever! When I mentioned it to John, he asked me if I told his dad that "we need it ASAP" - I said I told him we need it, but not the ASAP part. Well, at least when he said he'd think about it, he was serious!

Other than that, I'm still doing school work, but only next week and the week after for this term. Then I'll have a couple of weeks off, and the fall term starts early August. I'm signed up for four classes in the fall - 3 early childhood education, pluse a linguistics course that I just couldn't resist. I'm such a geek.

That's all for now. I wrote much more than I planned to and it's almost midnight so I really need to get to sleep soon. I'm pooped! Later, my dearies.
