Quick Update

Apr 13, 2006 06:29

Since I only have half an hour until Kevin gets up. Long time since I posted anything here, so let me explain. No, will take too long, I will sum up.   Finally got taces done.

Me First: I've been doing the diet and exercise thing and so far have lost about 25 pounds.  Have a doctor appt this morning, so I'll have the official weight loss total later. Finished with physical therapy for my arthritic hips, and continuing to do the PT exercises at home helps a LOT.  I think losing weight helps more, though, and I still have a ways to go until i get back down to where I feel like a human being again.  Still unemployed.  Still living in the same house in Indy.  I got the grill out of storage yesterday and grilled some teriyaki-seasoned boneless skinless chicken thighs for supper last night.  Temps have been in the 70s during the day most of this week.  I've been peeling the plastic off the windows here and there around the house to get some fresh air in.  Unfortunately, ants have come in as well. John claims they come here because I feed them so well (i.e., I don't sweep or mop very often).  I found some "earth friendly" bug spray - I have never liked spraying poison in my living environment and I don't really like killing bugs anyway.  Harm none!

School: Busy with school mostly, but I've only got a few weeks left on this term.   so far maintaining my 4.0, though I got a B!! on my last communication test, so I'm going to have to see if there's any extra credit available in this class.  in case there's anyone out there who hadn't heard, I made the Dean's List this term, and was inducted into the honor society last month.  I have to talk to someone in the early childhood education department at the college about my courseload for the next two terms.  I want to be finished with the entire AA by this time next year so I don't have to worry about transferring individual credits when I enroll at a regular university to get the BA.  I've signed up for three ECE classes and pre-Algebra for the summer term - all online.  I've signed up for another three or four ECE classes in the fall, as well as the algebra class that will actually count toward my degree.  The ECE classes are online, but I think I need to go on-campus for the algebra.  I can't trust that I'll be able to figure things out on  my own, and since it will factor into my GPA, I don't want to take any chances.

John: Been deployed for a couple of weeks.  Supposed to be home Friday.  Kevin has been extremely anxious about him this time.  John says he's going to be deployed most of the summer.

Kevin: After six months with no front teeth, they've finally grown in.  I think they're just about all the way in.  He's doing pretty well - had been having trouble getting to sleep - I thought it might be the dosage of Concerta and told his therapist we might need to cut it back.  He suggested that maybe he just metablizes it slowly, and I should try to give it to him earlier before changing dosage.  So now I'm waking him up at 5:45 or so pop his med in and give him some water and try to convince him to go back to sleep.  But even after just a few days, he's already falling asleep much better.  Nice to have someone who knows what they're talking about!  I'd insert a picture but I don't know how and can't take the time to figure it out right now.

Family stuff: homestudies have been submitted for three different sibling groups, but the only one we've heard back on is the one that Kevin's main therapist said "would be a mistake" because of some extreme issues with the older boy.

Dreams and such:  Had a LOVELY dream a couple of weeks ago that I was part of the Serenity crew.  Zoe and I went on a job that involved big booms and lots of money, we returned triumphant to the ship and then Mal and I spent the rest of the dream snogging.  As I said, quite lovely.

More disturbing was the dream I had last week, where I was having a friendly conversation with my ex-husband Mario - at the end of which he tried to kiss me.  We were friends before we got married, and continued to be friends - of a strained and seldom in touch sort - after the divorce.  It's been a very long time since I heard from him, and it was kind of weird that I should have that dream.  But then... early this week, I got an IM from him, and I emailed him back with an update, and we chatted a bit IM... he sounds kind of depressed, had a lot of losses recently, but is still married with two beautiful kids.  Said he won't tell his wife about being in touch with me because she wouldn't understand, which makes me feel very uncomfortable.  i am very happily married and I wish only the best for him.  I absolutely do not want him to think that he would have been better off staying with me, or that there is even the remotest possibility of him and me getting back together.

The Future: I've been operating under the assumption for several months now that John will be retiring from the Army instead of taking a new assignment. In fact we've been looking at properties in various parts of the country. I'd kind of like to move back to Florida, but the northern end, so I could be closer to my family (and yes, that includes Corgi), but the property prices are insane. We'd like to have at least five acres. I've also looked in the Clarksville, Tennessee, area, since John says he knows people around Fort Campbell who can get him into federal security jobs. I've done searches for properties in Illinois, mostly the north central part, to be nearer to John's family, who are really cool people. We've also looked at properties here in Indiana, south of Indianapolis. We went to see a 15 acre place a couple of weeks ago which was a good price but a poor investment, alas.

Having said all that, is anyone surprised to learn that when I was talking to John last night, he asked me how I'd feel about taking another assignment instead of retiring?  And this particular assignment happens to be in ALASKA!?!?!?!?

Well, my time is up, there is still, of course, so much to say but perhaps I will be able to get back onto my LJ later and add more.  If anyone out there is still reading this, sporadically updated though it is, let me know!
