Chapter 9
It’s Sunday today. Sungmin wakes up a little bit late than usual, at 6.45 AM. But she feels relax as she knew that Kyuhyun doesn’t have schedule for a job today. When she’s about to take a bath, she sees Kyuhyun’s still curling up on the mattress in front of television. She smiles to herself seeing his angelic and innocent face when he sleep.
After taking a bath and dressing, she goes to the kitchen to prepare their breakfast. In the middle of cooking, suddenly she remembers something. Today was supposed to be her wedding day with Siwon. If she didn’t run away back then, she was supposed to be in a dressing room with her mom, looking at her own figure through the mirror, wearing a beautiful white wedding dress, ready to walk down the aisle.
Sungmin’s been a thoughtful person that day. Even when she and Kyuhyun have a breakfast, she seems so lost in her own thought. Kyuhyun notices her change and he’s curious about that. He notes to himself that he need to ask her what’s the matter with her after breakfast.
So, that free noon end up with Kyuhyun and Sungmin talk about the arranged marriage, her parents’ business, her lonely life (only with her maids and her personal assistant Heechul-unnie). She tells him that she always stay at home, going out only for school or shopping. But she never whines about it, she likes being at home, learning how to cook, reading books, browsing internet, watching movies with Heechul-unnie.
Kyuhyun is glad that she can open to him about her story. Being paired up with someone you don’t know could make you either happy or the exact opposite. When you can find yourself falling in love with that person, it’s going to be good for both of you and your family. But if your heart couldn’t be captured by that person, you would find yourself rejecting the idea of the arranged marriage.
“Have you ever thought that you love him?” Kyuhyun encourage himself to ask it. He knows that he already got the answer of that question. But he’s just curious about what she’s feeling about her fiance.
Sungmin smirks hearing that, “I wanted to, but i can’t, Kyuhyun. I can’t love him because my heart told me so. I’m not the person who’s easy to fall in love, but once i do, i will love him with all my heart. But if you asked me.. i never really fall in love with someone. And Siwon wasn’t enough to make me fall in love. Eventhough i know deep inside he’s a good guy, despite of his impoliteness or rudeness. But being a good guy isn’t enough, right? And i can’t marry him since i know my heart tells me that i can’t love him in any way.”
Kyuhyun finds himself smiling smugly after listening to her explanation.
So, they spend the day with watching tv, sometimes talking randomly, playing online games (for Kyuhyun, of course). Kyuhyun orders Japanese food for their dinner, earning a happy giggle from Sungmin since she likes Japanese food so much.
The time before he fall asleep, Kyuhyun has one thing in his mind. I want to protect her.

Today is Sungmin’s first day working at a coffee shop, owned by Kyuhyun’s friend. Because of that, Kyuhyun accompany her to introduce her to the owner. They go there by riding his motorcycle. He feels uneasy as Sungmin barely touch his waist. She has no other choice, so she decides to hold onto his jacket, so hesitantly and awkwardly.
Sungmin looks at her surrounding when Kyuhyun parks his motorcycle near the sidewalk at quite crowded road. “Here’s the place, c’mon! I take you to the owner.” Kyuhyun points at a restaurant called ‘Chi’.
Sungmin looks at its Chinese decoration through the glass wall. Red and black are in domination. Kyuhyun takes out his cellphone from his pocket and dial numbers. Sungmin barely hear the short conversation since she’s too engrossed with the decoration. In the front door, it’s still displayed ‘close’ sign. So, what’s the relation between chi and coffee? She wonders, but she shrug it off.
They wait in front of the glass door until a handsome man approach and open the door. He looks like a Chinese man, match with the impression of the coffee shop.
“Kyuhyun!” the man hugs Kyuhyun brotherly. “Hyung! How are you?” Kyuhyun hugs him back, patting his back.
“I’m good, i’m good... Come in.” They come in with Sungmin follows them awkwardly since she hasn’t been introduced yet to the chinese man.
“So... here’s your friend?” He asks Kyuhyun with slightly broke Korean, and then turn his gaze to Sungmin. She immediately smile to him and bow slightly. Then Kyuhyun introduces them to each other. Sungmin finds out that he’s indeed the owner and he’s originally from China. His name is Han Geng, but in Korean people call him as Hankyung, his korean name.
“Hello, Sungmin. I can call you Sungmin, right?” Hankyung greets her friendly, smiling charismatically.
“It’s fine. Thank you, Hankyung-sshi. I’m glad to meet you. Please take care of me.” Sungmin bows 90 degrees at him.
Sungmin watches the two handsome men talking. And she’s surprised that Kyuhyun can speak Chinese. She of course doesn’t understand what they’re talking about. But it looks like they’re really close friends. She keeps turning her glance to them. It’s really nice to watch Kyuhyun doesn’t feel awkward in front of someone else. She’s watching them laughing together. But suddenly they turn to Sungmin, she blinks her eyes to snap her thought.
“I leave you two for awhile, ne?” Hankyung excuse himself, walking to where Sungmin thinks as kitchen behind the counter.
“Kyuhyun, you can speak Chinese?” Sungmin asks him with surprised tone.
“Yeah, i’ve lived in Macau when i was in secondary school for three years. I met Hankyung-hyung in a gallery. We became close friends since i can speak Chinese, hahaha... He doesn’t have a friend like me who can speak Chinese.” He recalls the memories when Hankyung and him got along well in short time because Hankyung kept bugging him. He feels amused.
“Oh...” Sungmin chuckles amusedly.
“By the way, i will leave in minutes. You don’t have to worry, Hankyung is a good guy. You can get along well with him quickly. I will pick you up at 8 pm, is that okay?”
“You will pick me up tonight? B-but i can go home alone by bus...” Sungmin get startled with his.. errr, can we say it as ‘sweetness’?
“No no, it’s okay. It’s easier if we go home together. I’m... worried you could.. yeah, you know you’re not familiar yet with this place.” Kyuhyun scratches his nape unnecesarrily. He’s indeed worried. And Sungmin blush hearing that, then she decides to look away.
“Ehh.. it’s up to you then.” She’s nervous, thinking about he will pick her up, then going home together by motorcycle, clinging onto him while riding, not to mention they live under the same roof. What are they actually? A newlyweds?
“But you have to wait for me, okay? Don’t go anywhere until i come.” He says firmly.
“Okay~” She scratches her nose. There you go, your stubborness is back. She thinks to herself. She slightly curves her lips amusedly.
When Kyuhyun left, Hankyung explain about her jobdesk. For her first days, she only have to learn by doing it. For her first days, she just has to learn from her co-workers and try to serve the customers. Hankyung decides that Sungmin work only until 6 am, because he understand her situation. She has to come home first before Kyuhyun.
“But don’t think i give you a special treatment. For your information, i pay my employees by hours. So, you’ll be paid depending on how much hours you work here. Don’t worry... And i’ll pay you weekly. Is that okay?” Hankyung explains, smile never leave his face. He’s a warm-hearted guy, Sungmin thinks.
“It’s all fine to me. You’re so kind to let me working here, Hankyung-sshi.” Sungmin slightly bows to him in grateful, earning a laughter from Hankyung.
“You don’t have to be so formal to me. You can call me Oppa. My female employees call me that. And i promised to Kyuhyun to take care of you. He’s my best friend. I don’t want to dissapoint him. but since you’re a ggod girl, it’s not difficult for me.” He says smiling.
“Yes... thanks, O-oppa...” she’s still awkward with the new address.
“You know what, Sungmin? I’m really grateful that Kyuhyun met a girl like you. He’s been changed lately, in a good way. And i think you’re the reason.” Sungmin widens her eyes and remains silent. Me?
“Don’t be too surprised. I’ve heard about you from him. And i can sense that he cares about you a lot. He wants to protect you. Ahhh, i think he already fall in love with you.” Sungmin blush hard now, speechless. Hankyung notice her pinkish cheeks, then he laughs.
“Aigoo, i think i already know your answer. He deserves a girl like you, Sungmin. And you two look good together. People will mistake you as real couple.” Hankyung tease her like there’s no tomorrow. Sungmin can only smile sheepishly and cover her half-face with her palms in embarrassment. Is it obvious? Wait... what is the obvious thing that i’m talking about? She mentally slaps herself.
Hankyung gives her the uniform and locker’s key. Soon, the other employees arrive too. Hankyung gather them and introduce Sungmin. She feels nervous, but she’s relieved that they seem so nice, especially the one named Leeteuk. She remiinds her of Ryeowook, very friendly and motherly. And Leeteuk helps her a lot with her job, since Hankyung instructs her to take care of Sungmin. But she does it patiently. Another employee that catch Sungmin’s attention is a waiter named Henry. He’s Chinese too like Hankyung. And he looks and acts very cute that she wants to pinch him.
When it’s almost 6 pm, a half of them including Henry ready to go home, while Leeteuk and some waiters who’s older will stay until it’s closed at 9 pm. Sungmin approaches Hankyung.
“Oppa...” Sungmin starts but Hankyung cut her.
“Oh, Sungmin. Why are you still here? You can go home now...”
“Ehh.. I have to stay here until Kyuhyun come. He told me that he will pick me up, and that i shouldn’t go anywhere and just wait for him.” Sungmin explains to him very completely. Hankyung raises his eyebrows hearing that, but then he laughs while nodding in understanding. Sungmin get confused.
“Okay... you can stay here while waiting for him. Maybe you can learn more from Leeteuk, or you can help us with the customers.”
“Of course, Oppa. I will do it!” Sungmin says cheerfully. But before she walk away, Hankyung calls her again.
“Sungmin, I know sometimes he’s being stubborn, but it’s his unique way of giving attention. It means he cares about you. Don’t misunderstand him, okay?” Sungmin looks at him with her big round eyes, and when she finally can register what he said, she smiles shyly at him. She immediately bows and walk away, back to her job.
Why does everyone like to tease me so much? Hyukjae, Ryeowook-unnie, Yesung-oppa, now Hankyung-oppa. She sighs and palms her face in annoyance yet embarrassment.
It’s around 8 pm when Kyuhyun arrive there. He greets Hankyung again and other employees. In fact, he often go there, so he already know all of them. Because it’s almost night, they decides to have dinner there before go home. In ‘Chi’, they’re not only offering coffee, but also some main courses.
Sungmin widens her eyes for the umpteentn time today when Leeteuk winks at her teasingly as she has dinner with Kyuhyun. She sighs again. The list is even longer now. Who’s next, huh?

In her second day, Sungmin’s doing better. Hankyung and other employees, such as Leeteuk, Henry, and Yunho seem to like her. And they’re so nice to Sungmin. She feels like at home with a family. That day, Hankyung insist to give her a new cellphone. At first, Sungmin won’t accept it. But according to Hankyung, let’s say it as one of the facility for the employee there. So, Sungmin has no choice. She knows that she actually needs it.
“You can text or even call Kyuhyun anytime~” Hankyung tells her, winking teasingly, earning a cute annoyed pout from Sungmin.
So, each day happen like always did before. But now they go to work together. Kyuhyun will drop her in front of the cafe. Sometimes he meets with Hankyung first before he dash out again. Sungmin will go home at 6.30 pm, take a shower, cook dinner, and wait for Kyuhyun to come home as usual. Sometimes Sungmin stays at cafe until Kyuhyun’s done with his work, then go home together.
It continues until two months. They forget about Sungmin who had to move out when she get a job. They are already getting used of the presence of one another, especially Kyuhyun. Each day, they become closer and there’s no hesitation or awkwardness anymore. And living together with Sungmin for two months makes Kyuhyun forget that he was usually alone. He never think about Sungmin leaving his apartment. Having her as housemate is like becoming the part of his life.

Sungmin already texted Kyuhyun that she will stay at ‘Chi’ and wait for him to pick her up. She just feel bored if she get home first, cook dinner, then wait for him home. She prefers to wait him at cafe and then have dinner there with other employees too, including Hankyung. Then they can go home.
When Kyuhyun arrive, he tells her that he already had dinner with his co-workers. Sungmin just reply him with “Okay, i already had mine too. We can go home now.” So, She prepares to go home.
They walk together approaching the door, saying their goodbyes to the others. But it seems that Kyuhyun forgetting something. He says, “Ahh, i forget to give this to Hankyung-hyung. Wait me outside, it won’t take long time.” Sungmin simply nods and then walk outside to Kyuhyun’s motorcycle.
She can feel autumn breeze attack her, making her shivers a little. She looks at the road which is kind of quiet. But she suddenly get surprised when she feels a hand grabbing her arm. Kyuhyun never do this, she thinks to herself. Even if he did this now, what is the reason?
She widens her eyes and let her jaw hanging as she turns around to see who’s grabbing her arm. “S-Siwon...” Shock is all over her face. The man before her eyes frowns at her. “Sungmin, i finally found you...”

That day, Hankyung insist to give her a new cellphone. At first, Sungmin won’t accept it. But according to Hankyung, let’s say it as one of the facility for the employee there. So, Sungmin has no choice. She knows that she actually needs it.
“You can text or even call Kyuhyun anytime~” Hankyung tells her, winking teasingly, earning a cute annoyed pout from Sungmin.
So, each day happen like always did before. But now they go to work together. Kyuhyun will drop her in front of the cafe. Sometimes he meets with Hankyung first before he dash out again. Sungmin will go home at 6.30 pm, take a shower, cook dinner, and wait for Kyuhyun to come home as usual. Sometimes Sungmin stays at cafe until Kyuhyun’s done with his work, then go home together.
It continues until two months. They forget about Sungmin who had to move out when she get a job. They are already getting used of the presence of one another, especially Kyuhyun. Each day, they become closer and there’s no hesitation or awkwardness anymore. And living together with Sungmin for two months makes Kyuhyun forget that he was usually alone. He never think about Sungmin leaving his apartment. Having her as housemate is like becoming the part of his life.

Sungmin already texted Kyuhyun that she will stay at ‘Chi’ and wait for him to pick her up. She just feel bored if she get home first, cook dinner, then wait for him home. She prefers to wait him at cafe and then have dinner there with other employees too, including Hankyung. Then they can go home.
When Kyuhyun arrive, he tells her that he already had dinner with his co-workers. Sungmin just reply him with “Okay, i already had mine too. We can go home now.” So, She prepares to go home.
They walk together approaching the door, saying their goodbyes to the others. But it seems that Kyuhyun forgetting something. He says, “Ahh, i forget to give this to Hankyung-hyung. Wait me outside, it won’t take long time.” Sungmin simply nods and then walk outside to Kyuhyun’s motorcycle.
She can feel autumn breeze attack her, making her shivers a little. She looks at the road which is kind of quiet. But she suddenly get surprised when she feels a hand grabbing her arm. Kyuhyun never do this, she thinks to herself. Even if he did this now, what is the reason?
She widens her eyes and let her jaw hanging as she turns around to see who’s grabbing her arm. “S-Siwon...” Shock is all over her face. The man before her eyes frowns at her. “Sungmin, i finally found you...”
