Home again, home again...

I wish I could even begin to describe Tunisia. It was one of the most incredible experiences of my life. It was a world away and apart from where I have traveled outside of the United States. It was such a learning experience, and I am so glad I was able to go with my professor. She actually studies and specializes in North African Francophone studies, so I was lucky to be with her.

We flew in LATE Wednesday night to Tunis, and we met some of her friends at the airport. Thursday, we just walked around Tunis, venturing in to the souq, which is a market, but it's a totally different atmosphere. That night, we went out to Sidi Bou Said which is a part of Tunis that is so different. All the buildings are white, and all the doors, windows, accessories are blue. It was beautiful!!! Friday we headed out to the South and to the Island of Jerba, a resort island. We stopped in El-Jem to visit Le Colsee (the Coliseum) which is the last remaining of its kind in North Africa. It was wonderful! Then we stopped along the way before getting out to the island later in the night. The next morning, we awoke to an AMAZING sea at our hotel! It was the Mediterranean!!!! Unreal! We spent Saturday and Sunday driving out into the southern part of the country. We stopped in Matmata which is where Star Wars was filmed. You'll see the pictures below. We drove back into Tunis early Monday morning and spent the rest of the week in the Tunis area before leaving EARLY Thursday morning to come back to London.

I can't even begin to explain how amazing Tunisia is!!! The food, the smells, the people, the vibe, the culture, EVERYTHING! Just ask me about it when you see me. It was just a once in a lifetime chance, and I'm so glad I had it.

Oh I can't forget! On Tuesday, Dr. McCullough (my professor) and I had harkous painted on our hands. It's similar to henna, if you know anything about that. It's supposed to last two weeks, but it's mostly gone now.

I hope you enjoy the pictures. Don't forget to look at my photobucket.

I leave for London tomorrow, so I'll update one last time when I get home!!! Pray for a safe journey home.

All my love,
Kimberly

P.S. I can't forget flying over the French Alps on the plane ride home. It was beautiful beyond words!!!!
