I guess I should explain where that came from. My neighbor's in ninth grade. She's got bigger problems than I did. She's dying of cancer. Quickly. She's my little sister's best friend. My older sister already lost a good friend of hers in high school, Kyle. I hated seeing her go through that. I don't want my little sister to lose Rachael. They make it seem like it's not too bad yet. "They" being her parents, who receive the news from the doctor, sugar-coat it and send it to Rachael and others who care about her. They don't talk numbers and they stay optimistic. Anyway, "they" just told us that they're doing that "Make a Wish Foundation" for her. That's for terminal patients, right? They don't do that if they believe the chemo and radiation is going to make everything all better, right? They said she has a 20% survival rate. And we don't even know how fucking long that survival will be. She's fucking fourteen. how does this happen?
