Thank you so much for sharing this. I am so glad that at least a few things worked out yesterday -- if only Prop 8 had had a different outcome... :(

Yeah, Hank hadn't heard the results of Prop 8 when this conversation took place, or before he posted it either, but that was SO disappointing.

There's already been lawsuits filed directly with the California Supreme Court hoping to block enforcement of Prop 8 and have it struck down "as a violation of fundamental rights in the California Constitution". So maybe there's some hope yet because even a majority of voters should not be able to deny civil rights to a minority.

It's been a while .
I'm sorry, but I'm back, and I'm happy with Hank and Ed,sorry some things didn't happen.Would have been sweet to watch Hank and Ed dance. The picture of the statue of Liberty was breathtaking, just hope most people in the world honor her words.
Thank you for the visit, no matter what the occasion. It is always a happy day for me when I read about them.
Thank you blue and you have a great rest of the week and weekend. Are Ed and Hank going to have Thanksgiving at home or with Iris in the windy city?
Thank you again for everything.
Hugs to all
Torry

No apologies ever necessary. Hank's still trying to have hope about Prop 8 possibly being overturned by the California Supreme Court. (At least three lawsuits have already been filed on the grounds that it's a violation of fundamental rights, which it is.)

Glad you enjoyed the visit. And Hank did manage not to break Ed's leg or crack his skull open while they were dancing. Ed and Hank haven't even talked about Thanksgiving yet, (Hank's been a little preoccupied), but, as much as they'd like to see Iris, his best guess is that they'll be staying home and Ed will try to talk Iris into coming here for either Thanksgiving or Christmas. Hank sure would have liked to have been in Chicago these past few days... Iris said it's been pretty amazing.

And yeah, unfortunately, I think a lot of folks who like to wave the flag and flaunt their patriotism conveniently manage to forget some of the words on the statue.

I'll tell ya, I was with Hank, trying not to hope too hard.... see, I'm a die-hard CUBS fan, got lots of experience in seeing what looks like a sure thing take that left turn at Albequerque and head south REAL fast and sudden.....

Hugs Ed and Hank and 'Blue hard....you folks coming for Thanksgiving this year?

Our condolences on being a die-hard Cubs fan. Iris isn't into baseball so much, but she has friends who are also die-hard Cubs fans, so she's been witness (and sympathetic shoulder to cry on) to the heartbreak. (Maybe next year!)

Hank's been so preoccupied he hasn't thought about Thanksgiving at all, but he thinks Ed is probably going to vote for staying at home and trying to talk Iris into coming for either Thanksgiving or Christmas.

Well, let me know if you do head east; looks like we'll have a houseful anyway, what's a few extra kin-folk? Be fun to introduce two of my sisters to uncles/cousin they never knew existed!!!! heh heh heh..... My parents are going South to spend Turkey Day with the Youngest, so we invited Older and Younger to come here.

(give us incentive to finish cleaning!!!)

Much love,

Mary (DancesWithCHows)

Thanks for the invitation!! We'll definitely let you know if we find ourselves heading east on I-80 around Turkey Day (or any other time). Going south sounds good right about now too as it suddenly decided to turn to winter here. Brrrrr...

Give our regards to your sisters!!

P.S. When you're done cleaning there you're more than welcome to start here. (Bring a shovel.)

Thanksgiving came early this year. If only Prop. 8 had been defeated, too. Still, I'm going to enjoy a day when I can be proud of my country and proud of my fellow citizens who made this possible. It's about time the children of the civil rights movement truly used their right to vote. The popular vote gave a good, solid majority to Obama, too, and the Senate and House are in Democratic hands. Let's hope that means we can stop the downward spiral and send our country on the upward path again.

Ed must really be relieved this is done for now. Hank sounds like a lot of people I know, and it's exhausting to live with them. And don't you boys forget that you have an equal right to live free of threats of abuse, to adopt children and to marry, with all the rights and protections of that status. Yes we can fight for you, and yes, we will prevail.

I'm baking pie, Ed...really good apple pie, pumpkin pie, and cherry pie. And I'm dancing with you...here comes the sun!:-)

**Oh, boy, I just had to agree with this paragraph whole-heartedly! You go, Jenny! I am discouraged over Prop 8 but far, far, far from being willing to give up. I never, ever will, and I hope that nobody else will either. It's a long road we're on, but there's true equality and respect at the end of it. I've got to believe that or there isn't much use in going on.

Oh, P.S., always love it when Ed and Hank stop by for a while. I sure hope Hank really can enjoy this incredible day!
Love,
Jenna

Yeah, we so want to live in a place where everyone has equal rights. Living here (rural/small town Utah) gets very discouraging as even the few folks Hank knew who put out Obama signs would almost immediately have them stolen. Betty's mom finally just put one inside her house in her window and then her house was egged the night Obama won. For all the lip service they give it, the folks here don't seem to believe in the basics of Democracy, like freedom of speech and equal rights for all.

We wholeheartedly agree with what you said: "It's a long road we're on, but there's true equality and respect at the end of it. I've got to believe that or there isn't much use in going on." We've got to believe it too. And, we have to believe that eventually, even here in Utah, gays (and maybe even Democrats too) are going to have the same civil rights as everyone else does.

(And yes, Hank did enjoy the day! And still is.)
