I've done a lot of thinking about this same issue and still haven't completely made up my mind about it... in general I dislike the idea of flags and what they represent. but one of the things I often ask people who support flying the confederate flag everywhere to represent their heritage is how they feel about someone from Germany who had relatives involved in the Nazi party flying the Nazi flag everywhere to represent their heritage. now obviously, the cases aren't identical, but it's food for thought.

This is exactly what I'm talking about. If someone wants to fly the Nazi flag, why not? Does it represent the Holocaust or does it represent what Germany used to be? Does the Confederate flag represent the Civil War, Slavery, or a former country?

People have the right to fly any flag they want to, in my opinion. I don't like what the Confederate flag is commonly understood as standing for, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't be allowed to do it.

all true. However anyone wearing a shirt that has anything close to "the south will rise again" written on it should be arrested under the patriot act as a terrorist conspirator. It's only fare.
