S with her good taste set her eyes on
Chez Panisse but unfortunately we didn't manage to score a reservation. We ended up at
Ame, which showcases seasonal New American cuisine. It is also a recipient of one Michelin star since 2008.
Located at St Regis Hotel, Ame exudes a contemporary and classy feel. As a bonus, it has an open kitchen that I love because it allows me to observe the chefs at work. Service was prompt and attentive so there's not much complain there. In addition to ordering the five-course tasting menu we decided to share a foie gras dish given that the State of California
has decided to ban restaurants from serving this delicacy.
Appetizers (left to right) Surf clam crudo style, geoduck clam with Ao nori and fava bean, Tai Snapper with cucumber and daikon. Superb start to the meal. Enjoyed every morsel.
Yummy spring onion soup with Medjool dates and sorrel. The most elevated spring onion soup that I have had.
Decadent foie gras. Nuff said.
Broiled sake marinated Alaskan Black cod in shiso broth. Light and flavourful and the fish was super tender.
Grilled loin of Berkshire pork with sepia soubise sauce, charred wax bean panzanella and smoked paprika vinaigrette. This did not impress as much.
24 hour apple almond tart with almond milk ice cream. Thoughtful of them to add the wishes, it wasn't meant to be an anniversary celebration.
Sesame panna cotta with ruby grapefruit and beet air. Pretty presentation and the texture of panna cotta was great. The sesame was somewhat hidden and the grapefruit was a tad overpowering.
Gorgeous company.
The dinner started on a promising note and naturally our expectation grew. While the ending didn't wow us as much, it was still a really good meal.
