Birthday Weekend

Mar 30, 2012 12:07

I love birthdays! Even though I hardly celebrate it in a huge way, it is an important milestone where I pause and take stock of where I am. As I turned older this year, it dawned on me that I have truly come into my own and I am in a very happy place in my life. And know what, that's an awesome feeling :) It makes me feel truly grateful for EVERYTHING that has happened to bring me to this place.

A well-balanced and delicious chocolate cake from Satura Cakes, our current favourite bakery. Moist, rich and not too heavy, just the way we love our cakes. 3 thumbs up!

Early next morning we woke up early and made our way to San Mateo Farmers' Market, another favourite haunt of ours. We were so early that stalls were still being set up! And why were we there so early on a rainy morning?

If your guess involved food, you are right and you know us well. 2 weeks prior when we were at the farmers markets we learned that Roli Roti sells roast duck (seasonal) and pork knuckles but they are so popular that we have never even seen them in all the times we have been there. Hence the decision to be kiasu and reached there around 8.30 am! Happily we ordered the roast duck and pork knuckle which will only be ready at 9. Yes, unhealthy stuff but there were so so good! It was kinda decadent to have pork knuckle and roast duck for breakfast. We got our money's worth from the duck because we had it in several meals - on its own, in ramen, salad, porridge and even used the carcass and made duck stock!

While we waited, we enjoyed the peacefulness of the market and picked up some fresh produce and bread. Simple and ordinary... and I love simple and ordinary especially when it is done with my soul mate who went all out to make me feel loved and special :)

Orange-flavoured duck. See how moist and pink the meat is! Excellent!

The pork knuckle was so crispy that with every bite, the skin produced that delicious crackling sound. Heavenly!

A lovely bouquet of flowers to mark the occasion. I feel so loved :D

That evening we met up with some friends for dinner and the next evening another phenomenal dinner awaited us. Review to come, for sure :) To sweeten the deal, I received many lovely and sweet wishes from friends all over that touched my heart deeply. It was a lovely birthday and I felt so pampered. Thank you all for making my day!!
