Tokyo 2012: Akihabara

Mar 23, 2012 19:00

There are 3 things that Akihabara is famous for:
1. With the reputation of the largest electronics district, they have the latest in Japanese electronic wizardry with an impressive 600-some shops and stalls.
2. It's the center of Japan's otaku culture and here you find many shops and establishments devoted to anime and manga.
3. This is where the hugely popular AKB48 Theater is. I was told that AKB stands for Akihabara!

When we got to the station, we see many tall buildings with huge and interesting posters hanging down the building. What attracted my attention was the bakeries at Atre that look so inviting and delicious. So pretty to look at and in the interest of an expanding waistline I successfully exercised restraint.

We meandered about several electronic, manga and toy stores just for the fun of it. This place is quite a visual assault I must say; loud noise, blinking and blinding light/colours everywhere. Of course we had to check out the theater for AKB 48 even though it was impossible for us to catch a show. Stvn was delighted of course to get so close to one of his current favourite bands. Yes, pretty young thing - what's there not to like.

Akihabara - paradise for all things electronics, manga and AKB48 fans

Yummy-looking cakes and goodies at Atre 1.

Greeting us at the entrance of Laox.
