Saturday afternoon my girlfriend and her kids drove me to the airport and I was on my way to Tarrytown, NY. I flew into White Plains and my stepdad and brother picked me up. We were there for a wedding on Sunday at the Castle on the Hudson. We didn't stay at the castle considering it was way too much money but we stayed near by. The first night in, most of the family hung out in a few hotel rooms, partied it up and helped out with some wedding details. No one in the family was from that area so either every one drove in, long distances I might add, or flew in.
Tarrytown is 30 miles north of Manhattan. So being so close to the city I was dying to at least see some of it even though I was flying out early Monday morning.
We did the wedding thing at the castle. All day long. I had to wear a stinkin dress and heals for 9 hours. (Which shopping for was a nightmare and a story in itself. But I did it.) The wedding was beautiful and the food was amazing, and should have been considering it was around $200 a plate. (K-razy if you ask me) If you want to see photos let me know..lol..I will direct ya to some. I told my girlfriend I would take tons of photos because she really wanted to be there for the extravaganza!
But afterward my Aunt Shirley was still interested into going into the city and I couldn't have been happier. I was actually giddy and a little over the top with excitment. My Uncle Warren, Aunt Shirley, cousin Stacey and her husband and I drove to the train station and took the train to Grand Central Station. It was $15 for a round trip ticket. Mind you, we didn't start our adventure until 10 p.m. The train ride was about 45 minutes. Grand Central station was pretty much empty and it was completely beautiful. I was very happy being there when things were quiet. I'm sure I would have been freaking out if it was the middle of the day. Once we arrived, we walked three blocks and were right in Times Square. We walked around a bit and took photos and were able to go into the M&M 3 story store. I thought we were pretty lucky considering it was so late on a Sunday night.
We ended up taking the 1 a.m. train back to Tarrytown but not before Brian and I had to get a hot dog from a hot dog vendor. Heh. I was asleep by 2:30 a.m.
It was a great day and things couldn't have been any better. (well, my oldest brother Kev could have been there and Brad and the girls, but otherwise it was great)
I cried a few times in my short absence missing the women so. It's weird how a break always seems so wonderful but I get quite nervous after awhile even when I'm just shopping a few hours away. But it was even harder being with family when your immediate family isn't there.
My dad and step mom and the girls picked me up from the airport. There was nothing more beautiful and inviting than seeing two little girls standing outside the baggage area holding two "Mommy" signs waiting for me. It was so stinking sweet I'm even tearing up writing about it.
I had a great time, but I sure did miss my women.
