supplies

Last night my boyfriend and I went out to PetSmart to get some basic stuff and look at some prices for more expensive items. We bought some Kongs, her food/water bowls, and a place mat. First we looked at the sizes and prices of crates. I am pretty sure that a 36 inch tall crate will work for a whippet, so we will be going with the "intermediate" size in terms of crate. The large was HUGE and the medium just didn't look tall enough and I don't want my girl to have to duck to go in her den. The intermediate is $90, so that is actually cheaper than what I was expecting. Yay.

Next we looked at those little playpen looking things that are like a gated hexagon...

Can you believe THAT product costs $170? Seriously? That is just unreal. My boyfriend is going to spend maybe 20$ on some wood from Home Depot and make our puppy's play area. This gate would be surrounding her den and be her designated indoor place until she is completely house trained.

I was also upset to find out that the place where I was going to be getting my puppy's food charges $10 more than another place that is across the county. Of course, the food itself is also quite pricey... Thanks to online reviews and some recommendations I think I've decided to go with the big bites EVO Red Meat brand. I've heard a lot of good things about it, but I am worried about finding correct meal portions and switching her from the food that she is on now... I really need to ask the breeder what she is feeding them.

Other than some more basics like a Dremel, shampoo, crate bedding and maybe some more toys, I don't think there is anything else I need to buy before she arrives. Afterward, I need to immediately pay for obedience classes, vet trips, and food. This is going to be a very expensive end of the year and beginning of the year, but after that it should taper down into just food costs, I think. -sigh-

I think I need to relax. @____@
