Last week something cool happened.
I'm in the middle of a freaking desert. This time of the year, it's very dry and cold. Dust covers every floor, and fills every corner.
That was the climate when I arrived. I knew I had a mission here, to intercede for this land. I prayed for this place to bloom, to grow, and to flourish. I declared life into this land, because it is as barren and dry spiritually as it is physically. It's almost because it was that way spiritually, the physical realm responded likewise through a physical manifestation.
And then last week, it rained. No, it poured. And poured and poured. For three days, each day, it poured. Everyone who came here often or lived here were shocked at this drastic anomaly in the weather patterns of this area. It never rains here this time of year!
God spoke to me through this. He said it was just a little demonstration of the power of prayer. The physical rain was a reflection of what is happening in the spiritual. Again, the physical realm responds to the spiritual shift by physically manifesting according to the nature of the shift. This is not merely a physical climate change, but a spiritual transformation as well!
I thank God for it. Also because I love rain and all that it represents. Plus, it gives me good feelings.
And this is through the prayer and faith of one person. Can you imagine the extent of the release of God's power as we unite as a body to pray for a common cause? More than just climates will change. Lives will be turned inside out. Hearts and minds will be renewed. A complete overhaul of perspectives would take place. Do you see? This is why there is so much emphasis placed on (corporate) prayer. 'When two or three are gathered...'
Prayer is not a means by which we accomplish a great work; it is the greater work. Prayer is not simply imploring, or confessing, or talking. Prayer gets us close to God, it is communication. Sure, He knows everything you'll ever pray for before you even think about it. That does not negate the need to pray. It's more for us than for Him. He doesn't need to hear your prayers. He does not depend on them to work. If He wanted to He'd perform miracles without anyone so much as desiring to see them. Prayer is how we get connected with God, and how we maintain that connection. It's us who need prayer. We need to pray, in order for our spirit to survive.
And more than that, praying aloud is also very powerful. When one speaks, the spirit realm responds. When one declares truth, the word goes out in the spirit, and will not stop until it has fulfilled what it was spoken to do. When you speak healing into an affliction, it will happen (not necessarily immediately; in His time), because the Word of God says that no word spoken will return void (that is, without having done its work). So as far as prayer helps us stay connected with God, it also does a heck of a lot in the spiritual which we may or may not see.
Keep praying, everyone. Pray with people if you can. Prayer really does so so much.
Goodnight and love you all! (:
