[In every life, the sun must set. Kid knew this more than anyone, but it didn't change the fact that it still hurt when he lost someone. It's hard to accept when someone simply disappears.

Still, Mayfield had enough problems right now without Kid adding another pile of worry and depression on the top. Liz always hated when he worked himself into a ( Read more... )

"They go back home, right?"

[There is the slightest hint of desperation in her voice.]

I want to believe that, but...

if it turns out it isn't the case, well.

What I'm saying, rather, is that it might be wise to remain skeptic in this town.

"...What are you saying? That the people who get droned might be..."

[Her voice becomes more wobbly as she speaks, and finally something catches in her throat as she tries to choke back fresh tears.]

[Kid catches himself - the last thing he wants to do is create more drama. He shouldn't worry others. Still, he doesn't sound completely uneffected, either.]

What I'm saying is that we shouldn't believe anything the town gives us completely. It's a philosophical question, nothing set in stone, so please, don't be worried.

Rather, in the event that those who leave aren't actually sent home, well, it's better to not assume, right? If they're somehow still as trapped as the rest of us.

"Y-yeah... I suppose so."

[Sighs, taking deep breaths to calm herself down.]

"Sorry. Two of my friends were droned recently, so your question kind of hit a little too close to home."

[Kid pauses again. If she was willing to open up, the least he could do was do the same.]

Someone very close to me from home was recently droned as well. I don't wish to worry anyone at all, it's just.

The last thing I want to see is the possibility of leaving her behind when we escape.

I guess I can understand that.

I apologize if I am too forward about this, but please realize that I am trying to piece this together as much as anyone. I certainly do not mean to be callous or rude.

Did they do anything out of the ordinary before they left?

No. Nothing at all. Ribbon and I went shopping for Father's Day presents, and Professor Oak was at home like he usually is on the weekends. I didn't notice anything strange at all.

I wonder...

So many people say that it's "nothing" that happens.

Do you think that "nothing" may be the problem?

So you're saying that it's bad to behave ourselves, because that's what's getting people droned permanently?

I'm saying that getting comfortable might just be what they want us to do.

Maybe... I don't really know a whole lot about the way the town works.

It's hard for anyone to say, I'm afraid.

Did you have the chance to read the information distributed after the Westport incident, miss?

noneed_2worry June 30 2010, 03:04:53 UTC
I didn't really go near that... I heard a lot of really terrible things happened in Westport.

I didn't, either. I didn't trust it. I think my instincts were right, but...

from what I gathered, the drones here even used to be other people. They forgot their names, and...
