[Is cut off somewhat abruptly, and pauses momentarily to take stock]
...Go ahead.
[[ooc: sorry for not being around this weekend much - ended up going out with family both days but ooh this is being posted at workies yay - I got me mobile broadband and a lappie ^_^]]
[He almost mutters some kind of apology for cutting Reeve off like that, but decides it would be more prudent to just say what he had been going to say.]
You should know my father is alive. I would not be surprised if he attempts to contact you in the near future.
[He waits for that statement to sink in before saying anything else.]
[[ooc: No worries, my brain was kind of on vacation anyway.]]
[A little hum. There is a reason he is being informed this, he knows. It is not suspicion, just caution that leads him to answer]
Well, I thank you for informing me.
[Reeve needs some time to think about the implications. Yet he cannot help but think the Old President at least faked being a more personable figure. Rufus had to live past his father's legacy of wrongs, and succeeded in this only to create a name further maligned.
[There is a quiet noise of acknowledgement and then a pause as Rufus considers what next to say to Reeve. There is too much at stake to leave it at just that.]
I haven't yet had an opportunity to speak to him myself, but I can't imagine we will be on good terms. He will attempt to undermine me.
[Another brief pause, and something that may have been a sigh.]
I don't want a war, and I am sure you don't either.
[Reeve frowns at the obviousness of that statement. It is worrying, but not as much as the latter words that come from the younger Shinra. He tries to stave off the emotion in his voice]
I presume you have things in place to ensure that this does not escalate? Gaia in it's current climate cannot afford to play stage to...
[Reeve quickly stops himself from using the term family dispute, for that is what it is at its essence, no matter the power or the name that lies around it]
...war at this time.
[Rufus has been honest with him, however, and does sound genuinely disturbed.]
Let us not be distracted from the main priorities here. He is but one man. Unless... Rufus, how much of his legacy does he hold once more?
[Is there SOLDIER or otherwise that have joined him, for he built an empire before]
[He smiles vaguely at the response, noting that his words had indeed been chosen well.]
The Turks are watching him. As for how much he holds, that is a question yet to be answered. He will probably still have some amount of money at his disposal.
[If Rufus knows anything about his father it is that the man is clever. No matter what he had managed to dig up, there is no doubt in his mind that the man has some level of resources stashed away where Rufus wouldn't have thought to look. Annoying, yes, but at least he knows to expect it.]
Beyond that, I doubt he has had much of a chance to build connections. That is, of course, what I hope to prevent him from doing.
[Reeve tilts his head to one side, resting the phone between his ear and shoulder, making a quick note on some paper. This was a delicate situation, a pivot upon which loyalties are gained and lost.]
...However, perhaps... a connection is what is required right now?
Perhaps... a familiar face could ascertain some more details than just surveillance...
[He holds back the immediate thought and the chuckle that would threaten to come with it. Offering to be a spy, Reeve? Where have I heard that before? Nevertheless, the suggestion strikes him as a good one.]

[A brief pause as he ponders the suggestion.]
