"I think it is a great idea to release any good and successful play on DVD with the original cast on DVD because it will reach many people who will never see the play." I agree. They do it for musicals all the time. But straight theatre? Very rarely. However, I think if they are going to try this out, this is the production they should pilot it with!!! I would like Season's on DVD too (then I could watch it with my parents at home) - that rewards multiple viewings - but I think we have well and truly missed the boat on that one!!! SG was not part of NT live and, to be honest, I have no idea why not.
"Great idea about the prints! The monies are so needed for the Arts."
There are a couple of interesting points. They are retailing mass produced tee shirts with the words "Frankenstein" or "Male creature" for men's shirts and "Female creature" for women's shirts. I was going to get one until I saw the price tag - £25. Outrageous. That did not compute with selling these limited edition prints (only 250) also for £25. They are also retailing the Frankenstein poster as a limited edition print - again £25 and again a print run of only 250 - I got one of those as well.
One request I have made to the bookshop at the National. They used to sell postcards of their productions - not the posters but actual production stills from a live production. This was useful given that you cannot of course take photos for a production. I think they retailed at 25p or 50p. I always used to get one if I liked a production. The Globe still do them. I asked the staff at the bookshop why they had stopped doing them and they didn't know. I think they should start selling them again. They are a cheap and a nice memento of a day out at the theatre, and a reminder of the production you liked. There is no issue re artistic integrity breach as the shots were always taken by the official NT photographers and were shots featured in their programmes and promotional material anyway. I guess that there are now fliers for their productions which you can have for free which feature some of the production stills but I would like a wider range on sale in the shop.
Those prices are not unlike the prices for shirts at the Lilith Fair this year!
I don't know why they have gotten away from postcards because those are really want people will seize on. I pretty much ignored all the high priced stuff at the King Tut exhibit last fall and got the postcard book because it was actually photos of the artifacts that I had just seen.
Oh good grief those prints look amazing, and I couldn't decide which one I wanted so I've ordered both!!!!! This production and the wonderful Benedict are costing me a fortune. Not that I mind very much. I don't mind at all really.
Going to see the play 5 times as well now (already seen 3 performances and got 2 more to go on 15th and 16th March).
The prints are amazing - and to be honest, considering they are top quality limited edition prints (only 250 of each) they are a bargain at £25.
"So I've ordered both!!!!!". As I said, I got Benedict as Victor because I wanted his unblemished face and his red curls, but I also got the 250 limited edition print of the Frankenstein poster print which I am hoping I can get Danny Boyle and Nick Dear to sign on the day of their platform talk. Danny is always generous with his time and I am confident that he will sign stuff in the foyer after his talk.
I am going to see it 6 times in total over the course of its run - 5 times at the theatre and once at the cinema. Why don't you come to my closing night party? Even if you are not seeing the show you can still come to the party in your best party frock - please think about it!!!
"And I would love a DVD as well!!!!". Right first thing tomorrow the link to this post is going direct to the National - the bookshop people. They need to know that the demand for this non-existant DVD is phenomenal!!!
Yes there is a limited edition print of the Frankenstein poster. Only 250 in existence. Also £25. I bought one as I want Danny Boyle to sign that for me on the day of his talk. They have been selling them for a month now - I bought mine on the day of the Mark Gatiss talk - and it is entirely possible that they have sold out. But they were in the bookshop this Saturday.
Ah, thank you, looks like both actors playing Victor has sold out! Haven't decided whether I want to buy them as creatures yet though ): But I definitely would want Benedicts signature on it :D

So for one if you hold it at one angle you see Benedict as Victor and if you hold the same print at another angle you see Jonny as Creature.
The other one if you hold it one way shows Jonny as Victor and if you hold the same print the other way you see Benedict as Creature.
Does that explain it or have I confused you even more now?!!!
