Mod announcement the second!

Hello Mycroftees! Not even midday yet and already a second mod announcement, what are we like?

So if you've been reading recent posts up to now you'll know that Raks has handed ownership of Mycrofting over to me. A lot of new members will probably not know who I am, but don't panic! I've been with Mycrofting since its inception (which had nothing ( Read more... )

Well that made my mornng! sabrinaphynn April 2 2011, 14:58:30 UTC
Fabuouls picture.
I am Jenn, Sabrina is the pictured kitten- I prefer here name to my much more common one. Very new to Mycrofting.
Like the prior poster, I also grew up watching Brett as Holmes and held off watching Sherlock until recently. However, both versions are excellent, and very true to ACD's character. BC's age is every so much closer to the age in ACD's stories, and his eyes are just right. (fangirl moment!)
I also happen to have two kids who acti rather like the Holmes brothers at times, not always a good thng. And I have siblings who are signifgantly older tha. I am by seven and nine years, so I can appreciate the characters of both Mycroft and Sherlock, as well as Mummy!

Alright, dving back into lurkdom....

Welcome darling! Feel free to lurk and post as much as you like :) I used to be a confirmed lurker of the worst kind, so I know what its like!

Two little brain boxes? How do you cope?? I can only imagine! I have the most in common with Mycroft, being the oldest in my family ;)

Hmm.. How do I cope...
Ha. Half the time I let them get on with their little experiments and living in a world all their own... (though I am not so sure I'd take a head in my fridge... I might) and the other half I yell. Loudly. I am not proud of it. ;)

Hahahah, oh, I work with children a lot, I totally understand. Maybe a Mr. Potato head would be preferable to an actual, human head? ;)

he he he. I do find odd things in the fridge, but not a Tater head... mostly plant experiements for now.. and chocolate milk powder spills.
God, I feel old watching this series sometimes... I identfiy more with Mrs. Hudson than any other character in this series- go solve some murders, there's a good lad! Geesh I only turn 39 this year... not 80...
Jenn who is shaking head and laughing at herself... and eagerly awaiting the next 3 rounds of grey eyes swishy scarves and coats and cheekbones, as well as more of John 's snuggly jumpers...

I'm a classed as a mature student, even though I'm only 25 - everyone is always commenting on how 'old' I am, how little they know! I do appreciate Mrs Hudson's more motherly approach, I must say. But I don't think that's what either of us watch for, haha! Hm, that description of Sherlock...I think I feel some art coming on...

I'm also 39. Love the range of ages we have here.

I saw that, actually; we had posted about the same time. I turn 39 this year at the end of June. I also love the range of ages. My usual beta is half my age right now, egads.
My not so deep Thought of the day:
Could you even begin to imagine how amazing the Holmsian world would have been if Brett had taken up the mantle of Holmes in his 30's, like BC is doing now? But it would not have been the same I think... ah well.

Strangely, I never thought of that. I think it would have been brilliant to see that progression, but I'm not sure if he could have kept at it for 20 years, you know? From interviews, I gather it was a very consuming role for him to play. I think that in his later years, the role was perhaps not good for his mental state, suffering as he was from clinical depression. He always said that playing Holmes was a real challenge for him as an actor, because he could bring so little of his natural ebullience to the role. I love how he found ways to insert himself nonetheless -- those small moments in the series when Holmes would let out a burst of laughter or quirk that funny little smile. It was such a unique and yet somehow wholly canon interpretation. And now I'm just rambling... :-)

Ah yes, I am well aware of Brett's mental health issues that were exacerbated by the role. (Though might point out that the exact issue was bipolar disease, more commonly known as manic depression- in real life I am an Registered nurse, so I get picky about t
=/his stuff) I also would not have expected to see him continue the role continue for 20 odd years. I was mostly trying to point out that point that we finally get a Sherlock Holmes who is about the right age per Canon, mostly, with a bit of wishful thinking thrown in.
Damn it now I have McArthur Park stuck in my head!!

Completely understandable to want to clarify. I stand corrected! I remember feeling so sad for him when I first heard a radio interview with him and found out how shattered he was after losing his wife Joan to cancer. It was clear that she was truly the love of his life.

As to your other point, I got stuck on how interesting it would be to watch one actor portray Holmes over the entirety of the ACD canon. Not particularly realistic, but an interesting idea. But I see what you're getting at in terms of finally having a Holmes who is the correct age.
