PSA: There will be a drum and dance at Arisia again this year. I especially encourage dancers to come and grace us with their presence. It's currently scheduled for Friday night, 9pm until "well past midnight". I'll be doing a short (hopefully 5 minutes or less) introduction this time, going over some basics.
Over in the Mycroverse, the new year was reigned in with... a contra dance. A circle dance mixer, to be overly precise, but you get the idea.
You know you've been dancing almost too long when: your brain is so muddled that you can't form complete sentences, but you're still doing the dance correctly, and even calling it for the confused people nearby in your set -- all without having any conscious thought of what you're doing or saying. Except that realizing you're in that state requires more consciousness than is available.
Also, props to kirkcudbright and company for another great party.
So far I haven't noticed anything different about the new year. Still bigoted assholes in the legislature. Still idiot drivers everywhere. Maybe one year the Numerologists Rapturists will be right, and things will get really interesting.
Lesson for next year: check LJ. Missed at least one party I would have liked to go to. D'oh.
