This weekend I watched "Up in the Air" and was surprise to see that it was rated R. Granted there were a few times in which the f-word was used. But nudity? Not really. Off the wall swearing (like in Shawn of the Dead)? Also not really. So I tried to google movies that should be rated R, but there really isn't a list around. So here are some that I feel have been unfairly rated:
The Boondock Saints- NC-17
Slumdog Millionaire- R
Little Miss Sunshine- R
Good Will Hunting- R
The Blues Brothers- R
Office Space- R
Men Who Stare at Goats- R
Motorcycle Diaries- R
El Norte- R
La Lengua de las Mariposas- R
Garden State- R
Death at a Funeral (UK)- R
American History X- R
American Beauty- R
Joyeux Noel- R
The Big Lebowski- R
Trainspotting- R
I think the MPAA has something out against Spanish movies since the Spanish movies listed really have nothing that would put them at a rated R.
Now a look at perhaps the opposite extreme: Japan. The following are rated G (same as in the States for General audiences):
Shawshank Redemption
Up in the Air
The Godfather
3:10 to Yuma
Now I wonder what a R18 in Japan would show :O
