Highs and Lows

Nat and I are moving to Japan this summer. We will be living in Tokyo. Three years. Let me know if you'll be in town, we'll most likely have a futon and floor for you.

The sad side of this amazing news is that I had to take my cats back to the shelter I got them from. I've been trying to find them a new home for a while and have only been holding onto my apartment (since I moved in with Nat) while trying to find them a home. As much as I love my cats, I can't rationalize paying $1200/mo for them to have their own apartment. I've had an ad posted for them and haven't gotten any response. They were adopted from a shelter in Seattle called Animal Talk Rescue, which will take back animals they adopted out when needed. So today, I did what had to be done and took them back. It was not an enjoyable experience. I felt horrible, especially with Midori. She didn't even fight being picked up and put in the carrier. I held her for a long time before putting her in the carrier, she was a warm soft ball of love that was very still and quiet. I think she had a pretty good idea what was going on.

So if you know anyone who lives up here and wants a lovely cat, or if you want a lovely cat, they are at Animal Talk Rescue. It's a no-kill shelter, so they'll be fine no matter what. Shit that sucked.

I also had to take my goldfish to the fish store. I also loved my fish a lot, but there was really no point in moving them to Nat's when we are just going to move this summer. My fancy goldfish had gotten very large and so pretty. At the fish store they were very excited to see them and already have a home. I wish it was that way with cats.

I will be looking for a teaching job at an international school for our time in Japan. I'm so busy with my current teaching job that I'm not sure when that whole process of cover letters and resumes is going to happen... one of these days.

It is the end of the semester for me and I'm trying to keep my head screwed on. I've got one lab with the kids this week before I give them their final test. Then parent conferences and grades. And then start all over again with a new semester next Monday. Whew! It just never stops...
