I went to my acupuncturist yesterday. She did the usual needles in my back for low back pain. She also used electro stems on a few key points, which she has done before. This time she left me with the controls. She explained that the first dial was for the left side needles, the second for the right side, and the bottom was the frequency. She said I could adjust them however I wanted.
I ended up with the frequency maxed out at 10 and the other two around 6. When I left my appointment I was a little stiff. By the time I got to my car I was in a lot of pain and couldn't really walk. I thought I would "walk it off" by walking around the block, but I only got to the end of the block before I collapsed in pain. Thankfully, the grass was dry and the sun was out. But I was in a huge amount of pain.
I called Nat, told him I needed his help. While talking with him, I realized I couldn't get up. I had fallen and couldn't get up. I was laying on my back and any movement I tried to take hurt really bad. Nat left work to come and get me.
I got some weird looks laying in the grass and crying. When Nat got there, he tried to pull me up which sent my back into spasms and me screaming to put me back down. Next thing we know, we hear the sirens of a firetruck (which neither one of us called).
The firemen were nice, they asked what I needed, if I wanted to go to the hospital. I try not to do that kind of thing, since I don't have insurance. Then my acupuncturist showed up, and she stuck some "emergency needles" in me (these hurt like hell and go places like right below the nose, through the lip and into the gum, or different spots on the backs of the hands, deep enough to go wide-eyed). The now totally baffled firefighters helps lift me off the ground, needles and all. I was overwhelmed and unable to support my own weight. I felt paralyzed, except I could feel my legs. Just couldn't move them or use them to support my weight.
The firemen decide to put me on a backboard and called an ambulance. I was loaded into an ambulance and taken to Northwest Hospital. The EMT, who must have been about 19 years old, was a real sweetie, but I was pretty out of it from the pain.
At the hospital, I was given four different pain killers until the pain dulled out. One was a nice butt shot, another was a shoulder shot, one was oral and I don't remember the fourth. I was pretty out of it (all four were sedatives). I was sent home with a prescription for Oxycodon and a prescription for Lorazepam. No xrays, no anything, really. Since I didn't "injure" myself (fall, break anything, pass out, etc) they weren't planning on doing anything else.
When I woke up this morning and all the painkillers had worn off, I wanted someone to end my life right there. My pills were on the other side of the bed from me, there was no water, there was no phone, and I was by myself. Just rolling over made me scream in pain. It took me at least five minutes to be able to reach the pills. I tried to get some water, but I fell out of the bed because I couldn't support myself with my legs. Crawling was pretty painful too, but eventually I made it to the sink.
It took me another horrible 20 minutes to get dressed, five more to hobble down the stairs to my phone. I called a friend to come help. Thank god for friends.
