Would it be safe to assume that this is one of the curses that I read about upon my arrival last night? I could see how this could cause some trouble for the residents here, especially considering what I've been reading. And here I thought Raharu was a menace, this is absolutely insane. That aside, is there any kind of formal citizens register here ( Read more... )

I do not believe there's any form of register; however there is a building in which you can see those who have departed the City.

And finding a residence is indeed as you say.

I see. Where would this building be, so I can at least browse through that information?

There is the issue of rent, though. I'm assuming one needs to find employment to pay for the use of the apartment?

It is called the Hall of the Missing. Occasionally, you need only think of your destination to find your way there. I have not been there personally to give more accurate directions.

It depends on the quality of your apartment. Better apartments require more rent; it's fairly easy to find one within your means.

The Hall of the Missing? How charmingly ominous. There was a map referenced in the explanation of the City I was shown, so I'll use that to find my way.

Thank you for the information, Miss...?

As are many things in the City.

First Lieutenant Riza Hawkeye. And yourself?

So it would seem, like this damned ticking.

Commander Amarao, at your service. A pleasure to meet you, First Lieutenant Hawkeye.

Likewise, Commander.

I suppose. It makes it hard to concentrate sometimes.

I've been here long enough that it's no more distracting than the clocks in Central.

Really? How long have you been here?

Just under three months of time in the City; however I returned to my home world for some time in the middle of that time.

Interesting. So the City brought you back even upon allowing you to return to your proper home?

It's not an uncommon phenomenon. As a further point of note, I was returned to the point in time from which I had left, as though all the time I had spent in the City had not passed.

...Very interesting. I'm assuming people are keeping some track of this phenomenon?

There are several residents who are keeping fairly extensive notes on the City's quirks. I must say I find my hands full dealing with the arrivals from my world, and focus my attention mostly there.

I'll keep an eye out for them, then.

Best of luck with that, First Lieutenant.
