Call of the whales
"Hae, I think they're still calling for you"
"Who?"
"The whales. I think they wanna take you home now"
Donghae walked so merrily after he picked up the so called treasure of his. Actually, as a second thought, his most treasure is still at home. Lee Hyukjae. Hyukjae and Donghae had been friends ever since they were five. That was during the summer vacation.
Hyukjae’s family went to Mokpo to have a splendid family vacation and enjoy the country side. That was when little five years old Hyukjae was forgotten by his baby sitter and unknowingly got lost.
Donghae heard sobbings not far from where he was strolling on his way back to their house. ‘This is a very fun place, who could’ve cry?’ Little did five years old Donghae know, there’s the soulmate of his. Waiting.
-Flashback-
“Uhm… Excuse me?” Donghae worriedly asked the crying boy who was sitting by the rocks, hugging his own knee. The boy seemed unmovable, but still shaking from all the crying. ‘Maybe he is an alien! And the reason he is crying is he got lost in this planet! Yeah! Maybe, that’s also the reason he doesn’t wanna look at me because he doesn’t wanna scare me from his terrestrial look’ Little Donghae thought and a grin was plastered in his cute face. “Hey, are you an alien? I’m Donghae, don’t worry I waon’t hurt you” Donghae assured the crying boy. Hyukjae on the other thought found hope, okay, maybe a little (‘cuz of the alien talk what do you expect?) He stopped crying and looked at Donghae. Donghae’s atmosphere seems to have vanished after meeting Hyukjae’s eyes. “You have pretty eyes” Donghae suddenly uttered unaware of what he just said or maybe he is. “Thank you. Donghae?” Hyukjae muttered, suddenly feeling safe.
“Wait. You’re not alien” Donghae pouted realizing he was wrong. Hyukjae giggled a little.
“I can play alien for you if you want” Little Hyukjae smiled at him. “I’m Hyukjae”
“Hi Hyukjae!” Donghae beamed, sitting next to the other. “Why were you crying?”
“I’m lost” Little Hyukjae bowed his head.
And so their day went on. Can you believe that instead of finding Hyukjae’s parents they played and as the sunset came, they watched it side by side.
“Donghae, I think appa and umma is worried about me now” Hyukjae pouted at his new found play mate.
“Ohw. Don’t worry, I’ll tell umma to help us find them, but aren’t you hungry? I am. Can we eat? Let’s go to our house” Donghae let a train of questions out him and Hyukjae an only nod.
After about a minuet or two of walk, they reached Donghae’s house, mansion to be exact, since Donghae’s family own the biggest 5 star hotel beach and his father manages the leading seafood supply in Asia.
“Wow! Your house is big! It’s bigger than mine” Hyukjae praised with eyes as big as saucepan.
Well, of course Hyukjae is also used to the prominent life since his family owns the leading entertainment label in Korea, bringing the different country a world class stars.
“Wait ‘till you see my room~” Donghae said still grinding and holding Hyukjae’s hand. “Wait. Let’s find umma first.”
“Umma. This is Hyukjae. I found him by the beach” Donghae introduced his new friend.
“Donghae, darling. What did I tell you about picking kids from the beach?” His mom asked in concern.
“Oh no umma. Though I will like it, I won’t ask if we can keep him. You see my lovely umma, he got lost and look! He got his mom’s number engraved in his pendant, we were just wondering if you can call her” Donghae as usual used his sweet smile as usual.
“Okay my dear.” Donghae’s umma said and Hyukjae hand her his pendant.
As the two boys watch Donghae’s mom talking on the phone, confusion was all over their minds. One is because the moment Donghae’s mother got the name of Hyukjae’s she went out then she was definitely happy talking on the phone, happy like talking to an old friend you haven’t talk in ages. About five minuets or more, she came back with a smile as sweet as her son’s.
“Well my dear, you really looked like her” Donghae’s mom caressed Hyukjae’s cheeks.
“Umma?” Donghae asked in confusion as little Hyukjae just stood there.
“Donghae, remember that lady in my high school pictures?” His mom turned to him.
Donghae nodded. “Well, she’s Hyukjae’s mother. Means, she’s my friend” Donghae’s mom explained.
“Does that mean Hyukjae can sleep here umma?!” Donghae then started jumping begging his mom.
As soon as Donghae’s mom nodded Donghae had already drag the other in his room. They played and when it was almost bed time, a servant came to Donghae’s room with his mom following with two glasses of milks. Hyukjae’s eyes sparkled as he took the glass of strawberry milk and drank it in one go.
“Thank you Mrs. Lee” Hyukjae bowed, still sitting in bed beside Donghae.
“It’s ok dear and you may call me mom if you want” She smiled as she sit at the edge of the bed. After they’ve been tucked, Hae’s mom left them.
“So you like strawberries” Donghae turned to Hyukjae.
“I love them” Hyukjae gummy smiled at him
-End of flashback-
Ever since that night, they’ve been inseparable. Donghae even went to Seoul when they’re in middle school already just to spend their whole time together. Bu, as they say, a relationship is not complete without fights, today is actually their third anniversary since they’ve became official lovers. Six if you count the years they tried to hide it from everyone.
Donghae dunked down as a flying porcelain saucer almost hit his face the moment he opened the door.
“Hyukkie~ Baby please stop” Donghae ran to Hyukjae who was obviously mad.
“Why bother going home Lee Donghae?” Hyukjae asked in half calm tone. Seriously, if Hyukjae would shout and hit him he can take that, but this tone of his always scares him, makes him very anxious. Donghae felt a tear fell on to his arm that was still back hugging Hyukjae. Out of worry, he turns the other and places a peck all over his face.
“Hyukkie please, lemme make it up. I swear I didn’t mean to forget, It was just-“ Donghae’s explanations were cut off by his love’s lips.
“Just make my time worth Lee Donghae”
It has almost been three hours since they’ve been driving and Hyukjae had already fallen asleep.
“Hyukkie wake up we’re here”
As they make their way, the sound of the ocean hugging the shore is already heard, Hyukjae thought it’s just one of Donghae’s dinners by the beach again, but he was completely wrong.
As Hyukjae started walking near the beach, a sound of violin soothed him. Then, what surprised were the baskets of his fruit addiction. It was not only that, on one board, there was a bord with monkeys hanging saying sorry and it was spelled out with strawberries too.
“Hyukkie yah”
Hyukjae turned his attention to the man who claimed him.
“I’m sorry if I made you felt like that when I forgot our anniversary, I really am” Donghae paused and took a deep breath.
‘Just get on with it Lee Donghae’ Hyukjae thought as he watch Donghae.
“Lee Hyukjae, will you accept me as your husband and be with me forever?” Donghae asked after kneeling on one knee and pulling out a ring.
“No” Hyukjae told him keeping a firm tone and made a move to leave.
“Hyukkie why?!” Donghae made a run for it and catch the other.
“Because” Hyukjae started.
“Hyukkie I’m really deeply sincerely sorry” Donghae’s eyes started to shed tears.
“Because I was kidding” Hyukjae gave out his gummy smile and hug Donghae. “Of course I will marry you dumb fishy”
Donghae hugged Hyukjae and spun him around. It’s just how he can make the other understand how happy he is which he can even say coherently in words.
“Hae?” The engaged couple is now sitting by the shore where they first met under the moon light.
“Hhhmm?”
"Hae, I think they're still calling for you" Hyukjae looked at Donghae
"Who?" Donghae looked back at him confusely.
"The whales. I think they wanna take you home now" And they both smile.
“Well, maybe I can take you with me since you’re an anchovy” They giggled again.
“Maybe” Hyukjae mumbled.
“So I can tell them I’ve found my princess. No, my queen and I’m ready to rule them now” Donghae answered as he continued to stroke Hyukjae’s hair.
“And I can call my planet and tell them I’m about to marry an earth link, except he’s a fish” Hyukjae answered as they giggled.
And so they lived happily ever after in Donghae’s kingdom under the sea and sometimes visit Hyukjae’s planet. Okay, no, they just live happily together.
