In which I have a visitor

So, my mom came up to spend my last week of Christmas vacation with me and now I've finally done a lot of the tourist stuff in the area that I hadn't done previously. It's weird, you move to a place with all sorts of amazing things to see but it seems wrong to see the tourist stuff. I know people who have lived in Scotland their entire lives that have never gone to any of the castles. They have castles and don't visit them! But I did...

First, went to Edinburgh Castle which has pretty epic views of the entire city.

Then, Holyrood Palace which is where the Queen lives when she's in Scotland. You can't take places inside and I didn't think the building was all that exciting BUT it does have an abbey that was built in 1128 and is pretty much awesome.

After that I did the Camera Obscura which is a museum of optical illusions and then has incredible views of the city.

From that view you can see my next trip, Calton Hill which is covered in random monuments for different things.

On the way to Calton Hill my mom and I wandered into an old cemetery which is always a pretty cool place to take pictures.

It even had a statue of Lincoln for the American soldiers of Scottish descent that died in the Civil War. I took the picture from this side because the other side was covered in pink spray paint. Savages.

We also went to Roslin Chapel which is hilariously in The DaVinci code. It's hilarious because they had to fake the “clues” as they aren't in the actual church. But it's a cool place.

And used to have a castle. Which is being fixed up, still.

Then one day we had our driver take us to Stirling which has another awesome castle with a view.

Part of the view there being the Wallas Monument which we went to afterward. It was closed at the time but we still wandered around the outside, just to say we'd been.
