I think in this show, where everything is life and death, it's possible to ship just about anyone and it be justifiable. When you don't know if you are going to live another day, sexual and emotional tension is at a constant high. However, I do think that Kara/Laura is one of the fully relevant pairings that I could see. As much as yes, I do ship A/R, it's mostly because I prefer canon. So because I can see canon supporting K/L, that's why I write it! I think it's a femslash pairing that I expected to be more supported than it is.
In fact, I think I am surprised, as you said, at the lack of femslash support for BSG in general. It is such an accepting show and has such viable (sometimes canon!) female relationships, I'm often shocked at the lack of gathering around it.
As for myself, I wrote a crossover Laura Roslin/ Kathryn Janeway awhile ago, a bit fatalistic like this one, but that's what I tend to see when I see this show. I just expect the truth to mean a rather sad end :/ It's truthful and hard to stomach, but so real that it's intoxicating. Sometimes we need to see pain, not the perfect happy ending. It makes us more human, and more grateful.
