[One thing that's always a bad idea to do: give a tree man something that is typically fine for humans.Case in point, just about anything they stuck him with during his stay with the Malnosso. Yeah, it's one thing to have to deal with cells-hello, unpleasant memories-but dealing with drug poisoning, too? This day couldn't get any more hideous for ( Read more... )

don't give trees people drugs, in bad shape, confused about life and all that jazz

You don't linger on the bad things, and focus on the good. You keep going, hoping that some day those that do wrong see the error of their ways.

[Oh so hesitantly, in a low voice:]

... Should you keep going, if one of the error of their ways is you...?

Yes. By doing so, you show them that you're better then what they made you out to be.

[A suppressed sound of effort, as he shifts on his elbow.]

But it hurts too much to keep fighting it...

[Hazily, he finds himself back in those days. Over one-hundred years of a decent life, overshadowed by a measily six years. Seems so unfair, to those years before it... he feels guilty about it, even.

But it lingers so strong.]

Giving in is always easier then keeping going. But giving in accomplishes nothing.

Focusing on the good helps. If you have support of friends or family, that helps too.

W-well, I'm... pretty used to not sticking around places to make friends.

But I am meeting good people here.

[I'm pretty sure they're good people, anyway.]

I'm not used to making friends either. [When you're outcasts to society, where most people see you as monsters or aliens. Friends was often the last thing on his mind.]

But there are good people here. Those that will look out for others, and help them. Several of them have replied here.

[He smiles a little at that first part.]

People think you're kinda weird, too?

[It's just the first thing that comes to mind, really. Maybe it's because you speak with the same sort of words Carolina uses.]

['Kinda weird' is one way of putting it.]

Yeah, they did.

[Hmmm, he wonders if he should pry. But sometimes it's hard to find people in the same rut, right?]

Is it because... you're real different from 'em?

[Discrimination, man. He's fighting for his equal rights.]
