I am, of course, as a very strong Catholic, delighted by the appointment of Ratzinger (old Ben, indeed) as the Main Man. My heart swelled and tears of joy rolled down my cheeks. "After all," I thought, "what the world, and the one true church needs is an ancient, out-of-touch, anti-liberation theology (it's dangerously like marxism, you know), anti-woman, anti-gay Popey-person." In fact, I haven't heard of him being FOR anything, but I imagine he's quite a big fan of God. I also found it interesting what Kofi Annan had to say. It was something like "He brings a wealth of experience to the job". I think from that we might be able to infer that Benny was not Kofi's favourite candidate, given that what he said was, "The only non-negative thing I can think of to say is that he's old." It's also true that the name Benedict is much less resistant to abbreviation and thus gentle mocking than JP.
