Postscript: In Defense of Boy Bands

As I was scrolling through my Pulse (mobile app) news feed the other day, I came across an article entitled “The One Direction NYC Pop-Up Store” which, oddly enough, had a little gem of a quote at the end of it that completely supports my theory:

But One Direction means far more to female fans than the material items, said Jerry Kruse, a psychotherapist from Long Island who had been waiting in line with his daughter and her friends since midnight. “There are girls who think about hurting themselves, cutting themselves, but then they listen to a One Direction song like ‘Little Things’ and it lifts them up,” he said. “These guys are touching people’s lives. This is more than 1D. It’s 3D.”
