When people are cruel... only because they are so sensitive.
I was thinking about that the other day. It's one of those paradoxes about human behavior.
There might be other reasons why a person would act in a cruel manner. Perhaps they have a low capacity for empathy, they are insensitive, by which I mean simply oblivious to the suffering their behavior causes others. So they are unintentionally cruel.
But that's not the kind of cruelty that interests me. The kind that interests me, or that interested me at that moment, the other day, was the kind of cruelty that arises when someone is hurt, and so they want to retaliate.
