David and I decided to get involved with the SCA again. We thought we would just play on a kingdom level because our geographic shire is about 150 miles away and the closest one to us in Cambridge would take over an hour to drive maybe more in traffic. I was looking at the London group's page (Thamesreach) on Thursday and they were having a get together on Friday. They were getting a group together to look around the Tudor gallery at the National Portrait Gallery and then on to a pub afterwards. Sounded like fun so we took the train down to London Friday evening. We had a blast.
On the way there though we were a little nervous. Every group has its own flavor and some are a better fit than others. We were very pleased to find that the folks in this group were great. We both felt very comfortable and as if we could fit in there. So... it looks like we have a local group now. Even though they are in London and it is a ways away... it is probably takes the same time by train to go to London as it would to drive to Cambridge and without the aggravation of driving in traffic. It looks like David may step up as their Herald too. He has been a group herald before and they have a lot of new members who are now looking at registering names and devices so the timing is perfect. David was the drop dead deputy to the Kingdom Submissions Herald in our old Kingdom and was getting ready to take over the job when the Army decided we should live somewhere else. He loves doing that kind of thing so it is good for him. And I am pleased that the shire has a lot of Illumination talent including at least one illumination Laurel that I know of (she is also currently the Queen of Drachenwald). So I am happy that I will probably learn a lot and improve my painting. I am very excited about that.
On that subject, one of the things that I find VERY cool about Drachenwald is that they don't use any pre-printed scrolls. Every scroll from an AoA to a Dukedom is original. Friggen Awesome.
