100% Wool Blankets --- The new bigfoot?

Jul 30, 2010 16:03

I am beginning to believe that 100% wool blankets just do not exist anymore! I am making David a padded jack (aka gambeson) for the 15th century living history group we are joining and need those for the padding. I thought that I would be able to find them at military surplus... but almost all of the blankets are not 100% wool. There are a couple which claim to be but they are almost $30 each. I have to use 2-3 layers of the blanket so I figure I need at least 4 blankets to be safe especially after shrinkage. Maybe 5 if they are thinner blankets. I've been surfing the web like crazy. And ebay. Not much out there. I'm going to try hitting up some charity shops this weekend to see what I can find.

Who knew it would be so hard to find something that I assumed to be fairly ordinary!

Our participation in the group wouldn't actually start until next year. But David will start drilling with the weapons in the late fall or early winter. Maybe even sooner as a guy he works with is with the group and said he would help him outside the normal practices. David has to have the jack before he can start that so I am trying to get it started asap.
