14th Century Shift finished

Last night I made the shift. It came out pretty well considering I just sort of winged it. It won't win any period correct awards, but I wasn't planning on anyone besides my husband seeing it. ;-) It is much shorter than I had hoped, falling mid-thigh instead of mid-calf, but I wanted to use the leftover piece of linen instead of cutting into the new stuff. The length doesn't bother me though. The neckline was slightly too loose, so I put a little pleat in the center of the front and back and that fixed it. The bottom is hemmed with a decorative stitch and the neckline and armscyes are bound.

You can't really see much because the fabric is black and so is my dress dummy, but here is an image of the final mock up for the gothic fitted dress:




I'll probably start the real one Tuesday or Wednesday depending how busy I am with work this week.
