Saw the radiation oncologist today. My regular oncologist didn't think I would have to get radiation, but wanted me to get a consult just in case. The radiation doc said he had been thinking about my case and was on the fence, but in the end decided I should get radiation. If I don't get it, I have a 20% chance of the cancer coming back. So I agreed to do it. I have to get treatment 5 days a week for 6 weeks. Ugh. But they said it is a very quick visit and would work with my schedule. It is what it is, I suppose. The doctor told me that there are no side effects other than a sunburn like irritation on the skin where they do it. My biggest worry is for my left arm. I have some mild lymphedema and radiation will make it worse. But my therapist is already working on it, so we'll just have to stay on top of it.
