Memorable Highlights * Slings is really cool. Getting a degree of proficiency in it made it so I could use slings as a poor man's early-to-midgame panic switch for stuff I couldn't otherwise deal with. I was very surprised at how effective this was. Being able to rely on a shield made a huge difference, too. * Finding a trove that required a +5, +6 demon blade to enter. * Finding a vampiric +10, +4 artifact demon blade with some other good stuff on it. This was the meanest item that the random number god could have given me - vampirism made it so I couldn't switch between it and my sling when needed, it wasn't enchanted enough to use as payment for the trove, and since it was an artifact, it couldn't be enchanted further. I suspect Xom had something to do with it. * Making a dude that was an extreme generalist, especially with respect to defense. Having roughly 30 AC, EV, and SH and a single pip of each elemental resist severely reduced the variability of the difficulty of random encounters. * Learning a bunch of levels of charms to lean on silence for liches and whatnot, and totally forgetting that there's a hexes skill now. I decided to go all in and get to the point where I could reliably cast haste. It was worth it. It's always worth it. * Finding all kinds of vaults over the course of the game. One floor was completely overtaken by vaults (like seven or eight of them, maybe 15x15 each), each consisting of a themed room with some mobs, environmental stuff, items, and an artifact spellbook. For example, there was a cold room with 2 azure jellies, 2 ice statues, a bunch of water, and a pile of ice beasts containing an artifact spellbook with a bunch of ice spells. This was a really cool floor. * Spending all my scrolls of acquirement on gold and ammunition, hoping to score some silver sling bullets to make orbs of fire easy. This didn't work out at all. * Finding a whole mess of orbs of fire. These are always the things in Zot I have the hardest time dealing with. * Saving an enormous mound of fruit and filling the entry hallway (before the "lungs") in Zot with oklobs, and luring anything annoying to fight into that room. With high invocations, this is amazing. * Gaining the mutation "You cover ground slowly" during the run for the exit after grabbing the orb from mutagenic glow due to spamming blink to get away from some tormenty stuff that came after the orb. Excellent timing. I tried to get back to my stash to grab one of my cure mutation potions, but a whole mess of nasty stuff came after the orb and i decided to try to make a break for it without grabbing the potion of cure mutation. * Getting dropped to <50 health by a shadow fiend on like D:4 due to the aforementioned mutation. This was a very difficult escape.
