Hello, everyone how are you doing?

I’m going to take a vacation next month and am in the process of getting all the details together. Sometimes staying in hotels and eating out for every meal can make you miss home. I wonder what kinds of things you all do to add a sense of home. Do you take extra fancy clothes with you or maybe send postcards to ( ... )

Oh definitely the extra fancy clothes :-) And I take my little toy cat with me that came backpacking with me for 3 yrs. He is a very well-travelled cat. His purring helps me get to sleep at night in strange beds, especially when I am missing my er... real cat. (ok ok I know he is a stuffed toy cat but I swear he purrs!)

My mum always takes her dressing gown. That is her comfort piece :-)

I have always always wanted to go on a paddle steamer down the Murray River. Paddle steamers were such an important part of developing and farming inland NSW and Vic. And I am sure all the women on the paddle steamers in those days were wearing interesting clothing! But I wouldn't turn down a hot air balloon ride either :-D

I have a cat too! Sometimes when I’m gone I miss her. It’s nice to have something meow at you any want attention.

I never thought of going on a steamer. Those do look like fun! Once I went on something similar, but I can’t exactly remember what I looked like. It was the only way to get to this small island, but people parked their cars on it. So it kind of lost its appeal. (And I was small so I probably didn’t pay attention much anyway)

heh, yeah I <3 my cat!

Like a ferry? Parking cars just isn't terribly romantic, is it?

Incense or essential oil to burn (+ burner) if you do that at home.
Your own pillow and cushions (in deflatable bags)
Some favourite little knick-knacks - as a member of this group you'd have some taste and style, and a few little things that you love....

oh I never thought of incense. I also bring my blanket not so much to remind me of home but because I love the way it feels. Often hotels just don't have a soft texture or the right thickness to your blankets.

They smell all foreign. Unfamiliar detergents. Smells are a great way to be reminded of home!
