Spuffy

Well it is my OTP, especially in fanfic land. Sometimes I find myself re-watching some eps of the show and wishing Buffy would have wizened up earlier to how wonderful Spike is, but alas, that’s why we have fandom. I like the pairing because of a few reasons I suppose. I like each of the characters on their own and together. Buffy is an interesting female character as she’s portrayed as both a strong leader and a desperate little girl at different points in the show which I think is a beautiful balance. She’s why I continued to watch the show once I started. Spike is a massive contradiction and therefore my favourite type of character. He is poetic and sensitive yet punky and quick witted. Evil and good, unsure and wise. And the way he cares for Dawn in S5 is the reason I ended up liking Dawn as a character, something I missed in later seasons. I have a list of characters like him that I enjoy, all of them have similar qualities, but JM is hot as hell which helps push him into the top spot I think. Together Spike and Buffy seem to balance each other which is important for normal/RL relationships. On the show Buffy never sees it, but I think Spike does to a point which is interesting. But maybe she did, she always paired herself together with him on patrols when he would have been better off protecting one of the weaker Scoobies…

Writing

Something I’ve done since I was about 10 or 11. I started writing short stories and poetry and progressed into writing a couple of short novel-type things. I’m relatively new to fanfic, I think I found it only a few years ago and love writing in the medium. It is great practice and hard work trying to keep within the limits of someone else’s character design. I do still write a lot of poetry, it’s one of my favourite disciplines, but I’m working on a few pieces of original fiction which I hope to do something proper with eventually. I constantly narrate the world around me because I enjoy trying to put what I see and experience into words. It’s something I just have to do I think…

Photography

I’ve been a pretty avid photographer since I started taking classes in high school. I had a really great teacher who I spent hours working with perfecting black and white prints with after school. He told me I had a natural eye for composition, and though I’m not the most patient person, photography is something I can dedicate a lot of time to. I haven’t really gotten the hang of Photoshop yet so I haven’t gotten into too much digital editing but I have a great new digital SLR which I use on a weekly basis. But I’m getting there and now I have more time on my hands to pursue hobbies like this again, I think I may start trying to learn.

Nature

One of the greatest things in the world. LOL! A bit of an understatement to say the least. I love photographing natural scenes, especially the ocean which I feel a strong connection with. In order to feel completely at ease I have to be able to see a body of water at some stage during my day. I love being in wild landscapes which is why my parent’s cabin up on the relatively deserted coastline is my favourite place in the world to be. It’s my Zen place that I picture every time I need to calm down or when I just do a quick meditation. It’s too beautiful to describe and I pray people will wizen up and learn to take care of the world around us a little better…

Your Life Goal

Hmm… a doozie indeed. I used to have a whole list of them. Now I’m not sure they’re realistic in any way though. I’m not entirely sure I even have an ultimate goal anymore, but I guess I still hold on to the notion that one day I’d like to do something that changes the world for the better. Sappy and cheesy, maybe, but I think it’s something everyone should strive to do. I used to do every “Save the Tiger” campaign I could find when I was a kid. I tried to instate a battery recycling program back home, but it never got off the ground. City said it was too expensive. Now I may try to do something which involves people more. But I’m not sure atm; I really need to get my life in order again before I start trying to help everyone else… But yeah, my life goal is probably to make a lasting impact in some way for the betterment of mankind.
