I never thought I'd get upset with rain....

So we just had the biggest storm in a decade in SE Queensland and my house flooded....

Not the whole house thank God, but our whole new extension. Where hubby keeps his new DJ equipment and one of the good stereos. All soaking wet. I pray that something is still working...

So what happened? Well I was oohing and ahhing over the spectacular storm (we basically had a waterfall coming out of our gutters) and then I notice that our patio is flooding. I rush out to put one of the dog houses on the table to keep it dry. When I come back inside I figure that I should get the camera to prove that the area isn't draining as it should. When I come back in the room one corner of the roof is leaking. I run to get a bucket. When I come back a whole wall is leaking. It was like a bad horror movie where I freeze frame for 30 seconds not understanding what was happening. Then comes the panic, and the discovery that I'm in ankle deep water in the space of three minutes.

Bring on the hyperventalating panic thinking that I am surely fucked. And where is hubby you ask? On a course in Victoria. I have no phone reception because the storm has knocked down the nearest tower, but at least the rain had stopped but the roof is still leaking and I'm running madly trying to cover up and move out as much stuff as I can manage...

It was horrible. Luckily the rest of the house wasn't affected, it would have been if the rain had kept up though. Luckily I got through to hubby who sent three people over to help me get as much water out of the house as possible....

Today I spent the whole day scouring the floor and drying the carpet. Bonus. No electricity to speak of. So I pulled the generator out of the garage, somehow managed to open the door to get it out of there and then ran the fridge and a few fans off of it. Hubby is on the next flight home, currently in the air I think and I am exhausted.

So if I'm not around LJ the next few days that's what I'm dealing with. And the dog I'm dog sitting atm is driving me crazy. If I don't pay attention to her (and let's face it today I REALLY didn't have time) she whines and cries. The last thing I need right now. My dog I have to say is an angel... a very muddy smelly wet angel :)

So I hope all of my fellow Queenlanders got through the day ok. My power was finally back on as of 3pm and maybe I can get the majority of this cleaned up before hubby gets home. Poor guy doesn't need any more stress....
