LJ Idol Season 10, Week 4

I don't handle change well. I moved a lot as a kid, and change was a constant. I always hated it, when nothing stayed the same and I was never given the chance to get comfortable. Now, as an adult, I'm finally comfortable where I am and I'm hesitant to make any changes ( Read more... )

Job hunting is rough on the self-esteem. That's the scary part...That and all the unknowns....work enviro, new co workers, new routines and rules, etc.
Your thoughts aew well expressed here. Best of luck.

PS: My bro who was 6 yrs younger was the "smart kid" too. Aggghhh! So humiliating...

Job hunting is awful. I had a good bit of motivation a few years ago and went on 4 interviews, but nothing came of any of them and it really knocked me down for a bit. Here's to hoping this time is different.

Asking the younger brother for help with homework is not at all a boost to the self esteem.

I can relate to the thoughts you have when working somewhere, but searching for a new job! I was at my old job for over 8 years. I was so sick of it. Over worked, under paid. But I was comfortable. I felt secure. I've been at my "new" job for almost three years now, and I'm much happier.

Open that folder! At least apply to those jobs. Good luck!

I can certainly understand your anxieties (and the sources). It does say a lot about you that you have survived so far, but it sounds like you would be happier somewhere else. It is so hard to change jobs. Good luck at whatever you do.

I always joke that this office gives my anxieties anxiety. They do seem to like me here, but I keep seeing people either leaving because they found something better or leaving because they were forced to. The office is a ghost town compared to what it was two years ago.

I definitely would be happier somewhere else. I just need to build up the courage to get out of here.

Thanks! :)

Over worked and under paid, oh yes. That's definitely my office.

I opened the folder and applied for a job on Saturday. Whoo!

And thanks!

You have people cheering from the sidelines, waiting for that puck to get in the goal. You can do this!

I don't know anyone who enjoys job hunting. It's not a fun process.

You may or may not be a math genius but you sure as hell can write! Your analogies and segue-ways here were spot-on and made for a tight read...although, emotionally, this was a difficult piece. I hope you find the bravery to make a change it does sound as though you need.
