Well, I had let the garden winter over way too long.
So today I went out and raked out the garden and made good use of K's scuffle (stirrup) hoe to scrape out an gutter around each of the edged beds. In the process I gathered 2 wheelbarrows full of grass, weeds, and dieback from last year.
So if I can keep it maintained, it will be easy to mow around and will eliminate the need for weedeating.
I dislike weedeating around my garden because it just flings a bunch of weed seeds into my beds.
I need to get a fork out there to turn the beds and pull out any weeds then get some plants in the ground.
I would love to make some sort of a soild sifter: a shallow box with a screen bottom to use to separate the dirt clods and hold back the weeds. I could put it on some low legs and make it so a concrete mixing pan fits beneath it to catch the soil. That would save a lot of time. I think it would need to be finer than chicken wire. It would either need to have 1/4" or 1/2" openings to break up the clods. I have enough scrap wood arounds so I might try to make something up.
The purple irises continue to come into bloom.
The white irises are sending up their stalks and they should bloom in the next week or so.
The city is covered in Dogwood blooms.
They look really lovely this year.
I've charged up the camera's batteries so I'll be posting some pics soon. I was just too tired after I got done.
After I finished in the yard, I sank down into a shoulder melting hot bath.
I love having a cast iron tub. It retains so much heat.
We went out to Chili's tonight and blew the entire gift card. Some of their food is seriously salty, but good! I have leftover steak for tomorrow....er breakfast.
