Chattanooga: The Blue Grass Grill

May 25, 2008 22:42

This entry was originally an email response to a friend of my who painted the mural at this restaurant. I had to return a CD to him and as he lives out of town, this was the most convenient drop-off. Well Julia wanted a shopping buddy that day, and I convinced her to drag me down to the library to drop off some horrendously overdue books and to stop by this place to drop off the CD and try the place out...

The food there was absolutely incredible. You can really tell they pick quality ingredients. And they have great Coffee.

I don't know, maybe it was just me, but I do not exaggerate when I say it felt as though the food had a purity / holiness to it. Does that make sense? It just seemed like it was full of good energy that accompanied the taste, which I suspect had something to do with the people preparing and serving it. The fresh fruit was just perfect.

The only other time in recent history I remember getting a good vibe like that off of food was when I got a blueberry smoothie in the cafeteria at Earth Fare, a large organic grocery store. I bought it for my boyfriend Konrad, but I took a sip or two before delivering it to him at the table. I just visibly brightened after drinking it.

It reminded me of the ideals/standards that the Amish are supposed to have, where anything they make is like a prayer - even down to a turned drawer knob on a dresser? i.e. they don't make junk (like all the cheap plastic stuff coming out of China - Ugh).

We sat at the bar, as the place was packed, and had the perfect view of your mural. All of those blues and greens on the mural really added to the soothing element to the place but my back was to the rest of the restaurant.. I did see a few of your Icons on the side wall near the cash resister. Nice against the brick. In the Mural, you really captured the feel of the mountains in the far hills... dead on. Sitting at the bar allowed us to interact with the two children, nice respectful kids (as opposed to most kids you see nowadays). Their daughter slipped me a saucecup of some of the apple butter her mom made from scratch which I slatered on my biscuit.

Julia spoke with a lady there from her Icon Painting Class who she recognized.

Will definitely have to drag K down there now. Maybe some of the holiness will rub off on him...

food, purity, breakfast
