the glory of running a private party at a busy mexican restaurant...

So at my restaurant you can rent out the rooms, and have a private banquet. A captain of your event, arrives about three hours early to set up - move the tables/chairs, put down nice linens, set up a buffet line, decorate, just make sure everything is perfect (-they then stay after about two hours un-doing everything also)... with your party you also get a cocktail server or a couple depending on the size of your party(they show up when the people do and then leave when they do as well, basic job is to get and refill drinks and pre-bus when they can)..

Well the other day we had a bank that was celebrating something and had a room reserved for 20 people... On my sheet it said they had an open bar and our fajita dinner...

I was captain and a new girl was a my cocktail... Because she didnt really know how to use our computer system yet I let her get chips&salsa, easy stuff like that while I got most of the drinks....

When the food came out 15 mins after they arrived, the hostess of the party approached me and asked me why fajitas were coming out...
me=me
h=hostess
R=manager

Me: This is our a fajita buffet, its what we have you down for on the contract. Is this not what you wanted Ma'm...?
h: No... We're supposed to have that cheap one, the appetizers, finger foods....
Me: I apologize if there was a mix up..
h:(cutting me off) Its already taking soo long and you've got the wrong food...
Me: I do apologize ma'm.. Let me just go see with my manager real quick..
*run off to the kitchen, find R and glare at him, we talk, he says she can wait 20 mins for the other food or have whats coming out at the other price, so I run back*
Me: Ma'm.. It'd be about another 20 minutes to get the other food out, but we are sorry about the mix up and if its ok with you, yall may go ahead and have the fajitas that are out at the lower price...
h: ok well thats great.
-we then have a little discussion about how'd she like the people to be able to serve themselves and my manager finally makes his way back to our room-
R: I'm ____, kitchen manager here, I'm sorry about the mix up.
h: Oh its okay, everything is going great.
R: Great, just let me know if you have any problems..

la di da... The party continues... Me getting drinks as people's get low... la la la .... everything is great...

This one guy walks in about 20 mins before the party is supposed to be over.. I go right up to him, stand off the side while he's shaking hands and as soon as I can with out interrupting, I get his order for a margarita on the rocks....

I go to my bar, put the order in and the bartender tells me that we're out of the rocks mix for the next half hour(we sell so many ritas that we keep our house ritas frozen and on the rocks premixed)... It was apparently just towards the end of happy hour and they'd done more rocks then usual..

So I go back to the guy and we talk..
me=me
j=jerk
p=plump jerkess next to him..

Me: Sir, I'm sorry but we're out of our rocks mix and it'll be about 25 mins before the next batch is ready... May I go ahead and get you a frozen margarita or something else?
j: *he stares at me for a minute* No I dont want it frozen I want it on the rocks..
Me: I'm sorry but we're out of the rocks, would you like a different drink?
p: they're out of ice? *said really snottily*
Me: no, the mix for the margarita on the rocks... It was a busier happy hour then they expected*apologetic smile* and they are mixing more but the bartender said it'd be about 24 mins before they have the next batch ready..
j: well what do you have on tap.
me: we have _________ etc..
J: I'll talk a shiner.
Me: I'll have it right back for you.

This guy literally waited about four minutes from the time he walked into the room untill he had a drink in his hand.

At the end of the party my manager came back out and talked to the host and he later told me that she was sooooo happy about great the party was.

When she handed me her card she asked if there wqas already a tip on it the bill, and I told her there was a 18% tip on the bill, and she told me to add an additional 10%... I told her it would be a few minutes for me to get the bill ready because I had to get the price changed..... When I came back from changing the bill and running her card she was gone...

I gave her card to the manager and went on to clean up..

Well apparently the the hostess called back the next day.... She said we were slow about getting the food out, both me and the manager she talked to were rude and uncaring, and the president of the back had to wait 25 minutes for a drink because I told him I was too busy....

Luckily for me this made my managers laugh. They ended up having to refund her whole card, but neither of us got in trouble..

But can you imagine what could've happened if they believed her? How could someone lie like that and risk someone else's job just so they dont have to shell out the 600 dollars for their business party?

It just baffles my mind and upsets me greatly. She seemed sooo pleased with everything and then to say such mean lies....
