Ever since returning from Michigan, I feel like I have had chore to do after chore to do. Some felt a little less like chores than others...
Since time tends to lose meaning in my memory,
1. Picked Marianne up from the Asheville airport to take her to the camp she will be working for until early August. We spent five wonderful hours together beginning with my inability to recognize her for two full seconds at the airport and ending with an abrupt hug outside of the camp's main office. It was a huge rush getting to see her after four Marianne-less weeks. And then...
2. She had a break from 3:00pm last Wed. to 3:00pm last thurs so I met all of her fellow counselors, enjoyed the invigorating sensation of kissing in a frigid mountain waterfall, experienced the unfounded guilt of "getting a room" and had another wonderful time.
3. I have been working at the bakery for the past two weeks taping the lids onto tubes and designing new Christmas bags (pictures are on their way), and mixing up 7400 pounds of dough. Everything was working out at the bakery until...
4. A position opened up at the office at North Carolina School of the Arts where my Dad works. Its in the IT department and not terribly complicated. I change some memory tapes in the morning then answer phones for the rest of the day. It's never very busy and I get to learn a lot of new information about computers and the like so woo hoo! It's no summer concert tour, but it'll do. I'm actually at work right now as I'm writing this because the phone is not ringing and there are no emergencies. I'll bring a book tomorrow.
5. Side gigs include: helping my aunt and uncle paint a mountain house, practicing/playing a lot of guitar, reading (The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nite-time (Mark Haddon), The Book of Frank Herbert, Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West (Gregory Maguire)), chaperoning my sisters's end-of-middle school pool party (which was an interesting task (Madman drummers bummers and Indians in the summer with a teenage diplomat, no?))driving to and from all of these activities.
All-in-all, this summer might turn out nicely (especially if I can get away sometime near the end of summer and drive out west somewhere. All the interstate driving I have been doing has really jazzed me up for travel).
