The advantage to not being able to hear meant that Dree didn't have to be distracted by anyone calling after her, as she pushed down the corridor. Trying to not think about the fact that her hearing was just gone, Dree just wanted to get back to her quarters.

How could she not notice that she hadn't heard a single thing anyone had said to her since getting back to the ship? Well, thinking back, Dree hadn't really given anyone a chance to poke and prod her; she was more interested in what was happening with the little girl.

Reaching the door to her home, Dree winced as everything tilted to one side and reached for the frame as the door slid open. Taking a deep breath, Dree watched the main room sway back into focus and she pushed into her quarters.

Aside from some bumps and bruises - and, apparently, a lack of hearing - she had escaped the explosion relatively unscathed. And, following an exam and the emergency meeting, Dree just wanted to get to her baby boy. She needed to see that he was okay; this had been the first time she had actually left him, and she'd nearly been killed.

As she reached the doorway to Max's nursery, Dree could see her husband coming from the room on the opposite side, but she didn't hear his question. Reaching the side of the crib, Dree let out a heavy sigh as she watched the month-old sleeping and leaned against the railing. Reaching down to him, Dree let the back of her finger lightly stroke his cheek and smiled.

She felt Trey's hand on her back, a moment later, but she didn't look away from Max. She didn't need to turn, a moment after that, to know that El had come into the room, because she felt the change in Trey's touch as he turned. It wasn't even a minute before his hand pressed against her back, telling Dree that he had not only turned back, but that El had most likely informed him that she couldn't hear them.

When his hand moved to her arm, Dree shrugged away and swatted at Trey's hand as Max's face scrunched up. Whatever they were saying was clearly loud enough that it disturbed his sleep, and he wanted to let them know about it. Dree reached into the crib and carefully lifted the screaming baby to her shoulder, and pressed a kiss to his quickly-warming forehead.

Turning to face her spouses, Dree glared, giving them both a silent warning that they best clear out. Returning her attention to the baby, Dree spun around and moved to the rocking chair that had been a gift from one of the Celcians on-board. Max was still crying, but Dree could only smile. She could hear the slightest whine, but it was the feeling of his strong breathing that let Dree know how upset the little boy was.

Rubbing his back, Dree pushed a foot to the floor, giving the chair a slight rock, and let Max cry it out in silence.
