Delphi Station
Newly-promoted and recently-widowed Council Admiral Hilary Barnes has just been reassigned to Delphi Station, where she will oversee all design, construction, and repair of the Council's fleet of starships. Barnes arrives at the station with her nine-year-old son, Jacob, ready to start a new chapter of their life. Thankfully, her former second-in-command - and best friend - is already stationed there, which will help them both navigate life this strange new place. Barnes will have to deal with new officers and all the responsibilities that come with her new position; while Jacob will have to deal with new kids, a new home, a new doctor, and not having his father around.

The Main Cast

Admiral Hilary Barnes (Claudia Black) has been a Council officer since the moment she was old enough to enlist, eventually becoming Captain of her own ship. She met her husband when they were assigned lab partners at the academy and hated each other from Day One. Fifteen years later, they were happily married, with a nine-year-old son. Her promotion and transfer was the result of a compromise, following the recent death of her husband, as she wanted to resign from Council service. Her sole purpose, at present, is to take care of her son. But, since she's there to work, as far as Hilary's concerned, the general theories on how a ship should be designed are wrong. She's had enough experience with her own ship to know where the faults and strengths lie, and she's going to use that knowledge to create the most advanced fleet the universe has ever seen. And, at some point, she might consider grieving.

Jacob Barnes (Max Page) isn't your average nine-year-old, except that he is. Jacob has spent his entire life on one spaceship, and he's been to every planet and met every species. He isn't happy about having to leave the ship, but he knows that he just wants his mother to be happy. His best friend on the ship left when his aunt and uncle were transferred to Delphi Station, so Jacob is very excited to see them again. Jacob has a rare disease that requires regular checkups, which means he's going to be spending a lot of time in the Medical lab. He isn't sure what to make of Trey's friend Daisy, but she keeps insisting he go with them, so she can't be that bad...

Doctor Tom Barnes (John Schneider) was a geologist who loved his work and his family. He was always in a good mood, and always found a way to make a tense situation much lighter. Tom had a rare disease, which he passed on to his son, and was in the final stages, though no one but the ship's doctor knew. During a semi-decoy rescue mission, Tom led a team to infiltrate an enemy lab, searching for any and all information about a new weapon that could be fired from orbit, destabilizing a planet and allowing for easier access to rare minerals deep underground. The team was captured and, knowing his health was already failing, Tom stayed behind to give the others a chance to escape with the information. In honor of his sacrifice, the Council has already designated the next science ship named after him. (Tom appears in flashbacks)

Doctor Diana Brooks (Melinda Mullins) is the head of the Medical lab on Delphi Station. She is one of seven people on the station with security access high enough to see Jacob's records, which are locked, due to his medical history. Her initial meeting with Hilary and Jacob is rough, because she knows they're both concerned about her intentions with him. Diana, however, understands their reservations, and finally gains Jacob's approval, after admitting to him that she has the same disease. It will take a bit longer for Hilary to warm up to her, but her bond with Jacob will definitely help thaw the ice. While she trusts every member of her staff, there are only two nurses Diana trusts enough to know her secret, and they have both been informed of Jacob's situation.

Commander Shena Bani (Gina Torres) was formerly the second-in-command on-board Hilary's ship. The two women have been friends since the first day of the academy and have helped each other through many experiences, from boyfriends to husbands to babies, not to mention all the work stuff. Shena's husband was offered a position on Delphi Station that he couldn't turn down, but he wouldn't separate the family, so Shena decided to request a transfer without telling him. Separating the boys was the hardest thing she's had to do, yet, but she's thankful they will be reunited. She's also looking forward to having a sane person around, and will do everything and anything she can to help Hilary work through losing Tom.

Commander Deven Bani (Michael Dorn) is the cool dad on the residence level. He's a dedicated officer - though no one actually knows what he does on the station - but as soon as he's off-duty, he's just Trey's dad. Deven knows his wife doesn't like not knowing what he does, but she's accepted it and doesn't ask. Trey, however, hasn't quite figured out that he will never know. Deven was good friends with Tom, and doesn't know what to say or do around Hilary and Jacob, even though Shena has insisted that he just needs to be there, and that's enough.

Trey Bani (TJ Jones) is ten years old and has reached the age where he's testing out the limits of what he can and can't get away with, but he's really a good kid. His favorite subject in science, and he loves to play in the park on the station, because he's allowed to climb the trees. Trey knows about Jacob's illness, as well as the importance of keeping it a secret. He's really excited to have his aunt and best friend/brother back, and will try to make sure that all his friends make Jacob feel welcome. He's also looking forward to having a proper companion for sneaking around the station, like they used to do on the ship.

Lieutenant Peter McCann (Sean Biggerstaff) has been in the design group for a few years and has yet to have a single supervisor who knows the first thing about basic ship design. He'll be less than enthused about Admiral Barnes' arrival, until he realizes that she actually knows a thing or two about ships. She'll continue to impress him by suggesting some rather off-the-wall ideas, which she says come from years of having her own ship paired with a nine-year-old. Peter's fairly self-confident until someone mentions his father, which becomes even more interesting when his father randomly shows up.

Commander Jeff Fletcher (Ben Browder) is an Engineering officer on Delphi and has been assigned to work with Hilary and Peter, making sure that what they design is actually feasible to construct. He's got a dry sense of humor, but knows when a situation calls for a little levity. He's got an eleven-year-old daughter who is a handful, and that's putting it gently. Jeff's ex-wife is a botanist, also stationed on Delphi, and it's always a bit of a show when they cross paths. There is a definite chemistry between Jeff and Hilary, though neither of them notices it, at first. And, when they do, both will do everything they can to avoid it.

Daisy Fletcher (Alyson Stoner) is possessed by some sort of demon. At least that's what her last teacher said... Daisy is extremely intelligent and easily bored, which is most definitely not a good combination. Her time is pretty evenly split between her parents, though she much prefers staying with her dad, since her mother always wants her to study some new plant or listen to a lecture from her stepfather, who is an academy professor. Jeff lets her help make dinner and challenges her to epic duels of a glorified version of laser tag. Her best friend is Trey, and she decides Jacob is cool, right from the start. Even if he is a little weird.
