a looooooooooooong time ago i was truly frustrated at work and a customer asked how i was doing and sarcastically i responded "livin' the dream." the customer was pretty much in shock lol. and with working at publix as long as i have (over 6 and 1/2 years) i've learned to hate it ever so much and most of the time i'm not in a good mood at work. as much as i'd love to leave, i get my insurance there and i don't want to risk not having it for three months when i go to get a new job. so i've decided to make the best of a bad situation until i get my associates and can get a real job and make real money and finally get rid of my debt.
so on to the real reason for this post. so now i make it a point to try my best to be positive at work, (although its sometimes impossible.) so when customers ask how i am i respond with, "marvelous" or my catch phrase, "livin the dream." most people are just like are you serious? i even had one woman go, "hahahahaha! yea right!" i was just like um wow. it's also gotten to the point that baggers and even managers make fun of me for it. or try to immitate me.
so the other day michelle is bagging for me and i greet my customer and ask her how she is and she hits me with "livin the dream!" and michelle is like "OH MY GOSH! you're so his customer." and she goes, "why?" and michelle says, "because he ALWAYS says that." and she says, "i know. that's why i said it." and i said, "that so funny because the other day some guy told me that after he came through my line about a month and a half ago and loved my response and has been using it all the time." and she went on to tell us that her friend called her the other day and said, "you'll never guess what happened. i was just at publix and the nicest guy ever checked me out. he asked how i was and i said fine and i asked him how he was and he said "livin the dream." it blew me away." and she went on to tell me that he even emailed her after that and in the email wrote, "livin the dream" - the publix guy. and i was just like wow! i'm a local celebrity lol. there was more to the convo but that's unimportant, funny but unimportant lol. so as she was living she said, "keep living the dream." and i said, "i will." and she said, "no! i mean it, you're an inspiration."
so if that wasn't enough, the next day i had a woman come through my line who had come through my line earlier in the week and mentioned something about the the power of positivity. and she came through my line again and told me how i made her day and how the power of positivity can changed the world.
then i was at jessica's yesterday and michelle called me and my phone didn't ring so i text her but she was at work. so she called me when she got off and said, "you'll never guess what happened! my cousin said he was at publix the other day and went through express and some guy rang him up and asked how his day was and when he responded he said, 'livin the dream!' and he told my WHOLE family! and when he told me i totally knew it was you!" she went on to say he was having a crappy day and that i totally made his day!
i'm not trying to boast or anything but it's amazing how someone who rings up groceries at job he hates, can affect so many people. i plan on leaving publix by march of next year and i was telling one of my customers the other day and she said, "that sucks!" and i said, "are you kidding me? it's great! i'm getting a real job and gonna make real money." and she was like, "well coming here will never be the same tho. but i'm happy for you." i didn't realize that i made that big of a difference. so i'll keep livin the dream!
oh and i plan on making shirts! "livin the dream" on the front and then "-the publix guy" on the back with a wacky silhoutte of myself on the back! place your orders now lol. the publix guy IN DA HOUSE!
"livin the dream"
-the publix guy, OUT!
